Whisky Reviews for Highland Park 2001 GM

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.91 points

  1. Donwaldorf did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Rare that I taste with water but it seemed essential for this dram.
    • Nose
First very alcoholic scents and notes of soap / lemon. There is honey, sugar and wet cardboard too.

With water the lemon is always there with a minty touch. There is a very very fine smoke and some fruits in addition.
    • Taste
Pungent, dry, spicy and bitterness. Vegetable and herbaceous notes are present too.

With water it is less aggressive and more expressive on vegetal notes, mushrooms and some spices.
    • Finish
Long on caramelized bitterness, fresh mint and spices / pepper.

With water it's more or less the same thing.

  2. schero scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

A little closed HP, the water is doing very well.
    • Nose
Superficial vanilla, slightly flowery, cotton candy, biscuit dough, banana, some lemon jelly, water is good for him and brings both the flowery notes and the vanilla to the front
    • Taste
Powerful on the nose, slightly peppery, vanilla, mineral notes, citrus notes, oak spice, a lot of warmth, a little bit of bitterness, water makes it much creamier and rounder, it gets really thick, vanilla gets stronger here as well
    • Finish
Much warmth at the beginning, the bitterness unfolds, but the spirit fights against it, longer finish, with water the nose comes completely in the mouth, the flowery and the vanilla displace the oak

  3. Blo scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Very good, of a nice complexity and maturity for a whisky of 15 years!
    • Nose
A little closed at first, airing does him the greatest good: Cooked apple, caramelized sugar, a little vanilla, a fine peat never medicinal. Nice and more complex than his age could have predicted.
    • Taste
Creamy texture, sharp, acidic attack, much fresher and typical HP than the nose. Herbaceous and precise, slightly spicy, beautiful length and never too aggressive even without water.
    • Finish
Long enough, a light caramelized wood.

    Enthusiasm 3/5 Whisky n ° 1251
    • Nose
Rather discreet. Apples, herbs, honey. Later, a little more greedy with toffee. Not very intense. With a little water, cooler, more open, more typical of a Bourbon First Fill.
    • Taste
Delicate in aromas, but beautiful big texture, very full. Some chocolate notes. With water, nice, but a little lively.
    • Finish
      Notes of dry grass.

This is the first bottling for Luca Vins in Oostkamp (BE). I tasted it in the shop and it felt like it was a refill sherry. It is not bad at all!
In the nose this HP is very sweet, fruity, a little smoky (and peat too?) And spicy.
On the palate it's more smoked now, more vanilla too, mint, spicy (a bit like Jägermeister but not as dominant).
The finish is powerful without water, medium, smoked, spices always and slightly dry.
With some drops of water it's really drinkable (and also more peppery).
