Whisky Reviews for Tobermory 1972 MI

Very unique tobermory, strong sherry casks always bring their own creations ...
    • Nose
Tar, cold ashes, steaming sherry aromas, black cherry, chestnut, dates, raisins, caraway, licorice, clove, pumpernickel, black pepper, capers, hints of tobermory salt, but much more discreet than other bottlings of them
    • Taste
Phew, again more dense than the nose would suggest, difficult to disassemble in the mouth, pickled plums, dates, black coffee and licorice, caraway, clove, black bread, an old library and old leather, damp, old tobacco
    • Finish
Tobacco, oak, leather, very bitter, already more than I can tolerate, but a nice long finish

  2. Lorion scored this whisky 93 points Expert Senior

This is one of the best of the best! An incredibly multi-layered whisky, which offers both old, dusty sherry charskter, as well as sweeter strikes and hearty-bacon. Just great. 93 points.
    • Nose
Wow ... What's that? First of all, I have smoke. Greasy smoke, not very strong, but noticeable. In addition, heavy sherry with its dark fruits. Plums wrapped in bacon. Grilled bananas with cinnamon. Forest soil with porcini mushrooms. Traditional balsamic vinegar, old and viscous. Some pot roast, served in a dusty library. Porrödes leather. It is fascinating that with the old, set and heavy impression, even a blood orange finds its way into the nose. Occasionally she comes through, but quickly loses behind leather, plum and bacon again. Time weakens the smoke a bit. To the plums come over-ripe dates and figs. Some sweetness prevails. Chocolate, about 70% cocoa content. Gradually the wood gets stronger too. The oak is seasoned with nutmeg and pepper. Cherry is now added.
    • Taste
Plum juice, warm and full. Sweet cherry, chocolate, this time rather milk chocolate. Thick and heavy, the whisky is in the mouth. The smoke is hard to hold. Leather, again I imagine a library. But cherry juice is there too. And of course, the oak is not to be misjudged. Spicy prickles the mouth and leathery, musty tobacco forms and can be swallowed after swallowing. Through the throat to the nose comes again smoke, musty and slightly greasy. Dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Modrig, leathery. Rather dry. Slowly (and after every sip more), a bitterness forms in the mouth that lasts a long time.

http://kaypingers-whiskyblog.de/frontend/fullarticle.php?id=261 Color: Oloroso sherry Nose: Wow, absolutely round and balanced first impression. Tobacco, rum, balsamic, ham, salty-rich sherry, vanilla and smoky leather - finest quality! Taste: Spicy until it stops! Relatively quickly dry, bitter and woody. Notes of elderberry, stinging nettle, balsamic, tobacco, caramel and jam. Towards the finish drifting ever further into the bitter-dry track. Finish: Long - dominant woody-harsh with the decaying notes of the taste. Comment: A true sherry monster - unfortunately a bit too dry and bitter. But the nose !!! It was / is worth it alone! 92 points (Nose: 95 / Taste: 92 / Finish: 88)

Very heavy, very good, a sherry monster, probably a tad too dry
    • Nose
Heavy, meaty, ham, faint touches of vanilla and smoke, wood, leather suit case
    • Taste
Punchy, leathery, dry sherry wood, oily, thick, plums
    • Finish
Long and burning and typically a tad bitter from the oak wood
