Whisky Reviews for Lagavulin 2005 MoM

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.74 points

  1. daverdaz scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Herbal nose and behind you get exactly what you expect. Smoke, tar, sweetness!
With water it improves in every way! Nice, younger Laga.

  2. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Not very varied, but what he does, he does great, Laga for sweet teeth.
    • Nose
Hui, what a sweet bomb in the nose with power, a lot of toffee, like a very alcoholic chocolate praline, almonds, fine grated coconut, mocha, fine smoke more like a fresh coffee roast, chestnut
    • Taste
Strong, toffee everywhere, cream, almond milk, mocha, marzipan, cocoa beans, cypress, rosemary, eucalyptus and camphor, vanilla
    • Finish
Camphor, a hint of young oak is added, lots of vanilla and toffee remain, white chocolate, medium to long

http://kaypingers-whiskyblog.de/frontend/fullarticle.php?id=276 Color: white wine Nose: A voluminous "young" Islay character stands in the glass. Sweet-pungent smoky peat with lime, in addition to malt and honey. Slightly floral aromas integrated in sweet, yellow apple. Taste: Powerful, dry, peaty and kept quite sweet at the beginning. Quite fast on the sharp side alternating with a lot of cayenne pepper, liquorice, green wood, bright campfire smoke and dry ashes. There are, as in the nose, sweet malt, lime and some yellow apple. Finish: Maximum medium length - again sweeter and more peaty. Yellow fruit flavors in wet coal and ash. The medical notes stand out better now; Iodine, sports bandages, seaweed and peaty broth. Due to the strong smoke, it is always dry at the end. 88 points (nose: 89 / taste: 87 / finish: 89)

  4. magic_slim scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Good whisky, although I have tasted tasted much better Lagavulin before.
    • Nose
Pleasant but decent and austere with the expected notes of peat and smoke. Otherwise I smell linen and wet fur.
    • Taste
Smooth with aromas of peat, tea and licorice in the dominating role ... and wet fur. Not very lively indeed. Becomes a little bit spicy after a while with notes of ginger, pepper and oranges. Nice and pleasant.
    • Finish
Long, mainly on notes of tea.
