[November, 2017]  I had this dram during a community tasting "Clash of the Celts" with 5 pairs of Irish vs. Scotch whisk(e)y.  This Glen Elgin 21-year old was paired with a Redbreast 21-year old (bottled on May, 9th, 2016) https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/78096/redbreast-21-year-old.  Out of 32 attendees 23 voted in favour of the Redbreast and 3 in favour of the Glen Elgin (6 voted for a draw).

The colour is pale gold and the texture shows fast legs and some late fat tears.  The nose indeed is very fruity but rather shy (meaning not bold) mostly on lemons, lime and oranges.  Very fresh and tingling.  It arrives in the mouth warming and a litte peppery but not coating at all (see the light texture).  The taste is sugary sweet and fruity but not as impressive as is the nose.  After some chewing more fruits show up.  The finish is of medium length and richer than the taste, surprisingly.  No distracting moment at all.  Water is not needed.

A dram with a good start and finish but that is weaker upon arrival on the palate.   Actually better than my first time score...

Well. Palate and Departure please. Not only is the nose unspectacular, but it also has blemishes for me. I like fermented aromas, but biowaste is a variant that I do not like. 71 points
    • Nose
Fresh and light-fruited. Lemon and orange, sometimes a sweetness is visible, then it disappears again. Somewhat sour for my taste. A bit tingling and kräutrig, fresh herbs are the ones that are also fresh in the nose: chives, basil. The sweetness is getting stronger and makes for a smoother impression in the nose. Then there is something else that I can hardly judge. There is a smell of fermented fruit / biowaste ... Strange. In any case, after the first sip, the nose opens up, more fruits come out (mango, grapefruit, pear).
    • Taste
At first very weak on the chest, then it becomes more intense with a certain sweetness and a spiciness, the oak provides here for a nice tobacco taste. However, it remains quite moderate, as far as the intensity is concerned and even more sips can not change it, here the power is missing. The whisky will be a bit older, because he bring - to record something positive - beautiful oak cargo, not too strong, not too weak.
    • Finish
The best thing about whisky! Long and pleasantly spicy, the oak dominates here.

[November, 2016]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 80 Euro in November, 2016.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85.  My notes state this is not a tropical fruit banquet as the fruits still have to be picked from the trees (their flavours are shy and not very impressive).  Nevertheless easy to drink...
