  1. MrDvorak scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    RATING: 84pts – |83 – 86 (B) → Good| — Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.
    • Nose
      86 86
The nose is simple but beautifuly peated with pronounced notes of charcoal, sea salt, lemon zest and flowers.
    • Taste
      85 85
The taste is slightly sweet but rather dry with a profile of smoked fish and meat, iodine and burnt lemons.
    • Finish
      82 82
The finish is disappointingly short and plain and based on peat, lemon zest and tannic earthiness.

    Sample.

I really like it. You get a good sense of wort and also the peat, with very little cask trickery.

You feel like you’re in the fermentation room drinking out of a washback. Very naked, very clean. Grapes, iodine, gauze. I don’t know it’s simple, but pure. I really love it. If you’re a whisky nerd, this is what’s it’s all About.

It fails in the aftertaste, which is normal for this age. Otherwise, everything is very expressive and good, albeit simple.
    • Nose
Coal shed, peat, sea breeze and iodized salt, lemon peel, some floral tones, rice pudding, chimney smoke.
    • Taste
A little sweet, then a little dry, oily and quite dense. Smoked meats, a lot of iodide and peat, lemons.
    • Finish
Basic, warming, very simple and flat, mineral peat. And again peat, some lemons and vanilla, there is earthiness.

If you ignore the rather short finish, it's a very nice Islay smoker. The 8 years you already tell him, but since a number on it, you know what to expect. The 45.8% are very pleasant.
    • Nose
      84 84
Clear and pure nose. Refreshing with smoked banana pieces and orange slices. Rose scent and some mint. Feels light and airy, without letting it miss depth.
    • Taste
      84 84
Dry onion with cloves, licorice and neat peat smoke on the tongue. Tart herbs in the background, sweet fruit candies in front. Bruised banana.
    • Finish
      83 83
The smoke creeps into the far corner and settles there. Dry, medium to short. The pleasant peat smoke is still there for a long time, since the fruits and herbs have long since disappeared.

A very nice Single Malt from Islay at a good price. In my opinion, whisky tastes better than it smells. The alcohol is completely undetectable with a sweetness well balanced and balanced, but there is also a lot of freshness in the form of citrus and apple notes. All of this shrouded in smoke makes the whisky feel more than good in my taste buds. I recommend.
    • Nose
      87 87
bitterness, charcoal, burnt gum, citrus, a little honey
    • Taste
      88 88
sweet, smoky, burnt milk, vanilla, campfire ash, vanilla, red apples, oak
    • Finish
      88 88
long, sweet, honey-bitter, slightly spicy at the very tip, tingling on the tongue, a lot of smoke.

Port Askaig 8 YO (45.8%). Consumed at a Port Askaig hosted tasting at Milroy's Soho, Feb 2019. Pale. Aroma faint bourbon, woody, pale oak, wood shavings, rock salt some seaweed. Taste spicy, boozy, very salty, light smoke, suggestions of faint vanilla and burnt wood. Decent - salty Islay character. Afterwards the brand rep confirmed that this is an older batch and a Caol Ila. 3.3/79
