Whisky Reviews for Lagavulin Lg6 SMS

10 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.53 points

  1. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Notes by producer;

    Showcasing the meaty full bodied spirit, Lg6 is made up of mainly 8 year old spirit with a small amount of considerably older refill sherry matured whisky.

    Cask Details;
    Majority of distillate from the mid-2000's matured in refill hogsheads.

    Tasting Notes;

    Classic bacon notes and coal smoke blends with clean, crisp citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon.

    Dense smoke with a robust, almost meaty texture. Aniseed and black pepper combine with sweeter notes of honey-glazed ham, orange peel and marzipan.

    Tarred rope and sooty smoke make for a classic Islay finish.

    Compared to any version of lagavulin 12, this dram is less complex.

    However, this shows clean and moderate peat&smoke flavor plus fresh lemon&lemon peel oil. The flavors are delivered in a nice order and build up a clear structure. Very quaffable indeed.

  3. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    Very, very nice Lagavulin with its own blend of flavors despite the typical Laga smoke, great stuff for the ages.
    • Nose
      Fresh barley, typical honey flavored, sweet Lagavulin smoke, corny bars, fresh coffee beans, vanilla, thyme, black tea, bread crust, extinguished campfire, white chocolate
    • Taste
      Sweet onset, cereals and fresh wheat bread, plus honey, fresh vanilla, light malt, thyme, fennel, chamomile, nettle tea, coffee, iodine, coal
    • Finish
      Long, beautiful forest honey and fine herbs, thyme and light malt, a little cigar with vanilla

    Enthusiasm: Nose: 3/5 Mouth and Finale: 4/5 Whisky n ° 1453
    • Nose
      Warm at first, it gradually moves to a more maritime freshness. Almonds. Vegetable notes too. Average peat. It's young. Smoked bacon too.
    • Taste
      Well corpulent and juicy, we note some citrus scents.
    • Finish
      Always lemon and spices in strength. Final net.

    There is little to say because it is perfect! Lagavulin, a distillery that more and more awakes my interest and this range just as much. (Whisky Passion).
    • Nose
      There it causes smoke, salted meat, dried bacon. A great breath of maritime air that comes to emphasize a line of lemon. It has notes of frangipane, almonds.
    • Taste
      The mouth is salty, but the angles are worked, rounded by this very nice presence of almond pastry preparation. Then the smoke of course expresses itself freely and fully, always with this dried meat that I love. Confectionery, lemon gum.
    • Finish
      Final smoke, earthy, with tobacco. A little vanilla, with a hint of salt always. Viandée wish, I love when it extends in this way.

    N: Following on from the Octomore Oc3, this is understandably more polite with notes of snow peas and leather.
    T: A Clynelish-Islay style i wrote [without any additional info], and a pronounced mouthfeel - a factor that has been fairly absent with many of the whiskies on show at Whiskylive 2017 this weekend. Water brings subtle, soft & slight, vegetal-sweet changes.
    F: Sugary vegetal peat.
    C: I find this nearly as good as the fabulous Octomore.Scores a B
