Forceful GlenDronach and at only 10 years old! In my (not so) humble opinion, this Luke Skywalker (which can still be found for 100 to 130 EUR) is quite a step up from the Darth Vader. I’m getting me this one. Thanks, Sven! Will the next one get a purple label and be called Mace Windu? Or a red one for Kylo Ren? I’d like that. Why not? The Force is strong with GlenDronach…
    • Nose
Wonderful, honeysweet nose on caramel, roasted coffee beans (a little bitter!), freshly sawed plands and a truckload of dark fruit. Think plums, figs and a lost dade. Lots of nuts, too. Hazelnuts and roasted almonds in the lead. It even has a side that reminds me a bit of American whisky. Where did that come from? Might this in fact be bourbon cask matured and only finished on a refill PX cask? Be that as it may, this is very good (and I prefer it to the Darth Vader, on the nose at least).
    • Taste
Beautiful creaminess on the palate. Again very sweet and – contrary to his ‘father’ – soft on the spices. A little bit of pepper and a pinch of nutmeg, but far from piquant. The fruit shines through like a beacon, but midpalate it gets a big bitter note from the wood. But it has to be said: it works like the Force! Good balance. The bitterness in fact is a plus. Nice!
    • Finish
The finish is wonderfully long and the spices get another chance to show themselves. It fades very, very gently offering the fruit the final word before dying a bone dry death.

Tasted at Tunsberg Whisky Festival 2019.
A small notch up from the 12YO Original.

PX sherry. Lots of dark red fruits.
      Fatty nuts, chocolate, caramel, coffee.
Very rich nose, inviting to those that like sherry.
    • Taste
      89 89
      Mostly dominated by sweet fruit.
The nutty side is a bit more dry than expected with a little bitterness coming along.
Less spice than what is expexted from a 48%, still pretty solid and firm feel to it.
    • Finish
      85 85
Fairly long finish with a slow fade.
Fruit is the first to give way to more dark chocolate/coffee.
Spice is getting more noticable as the final notes on dry wood sets in.
