Magnificent whisky. Incredible maturity and balance in barely six years in oak. Roasted nuts, dried fruits and bitter coffee, extremely dense sherry influence with a herbal twist to it. Spicy woodiness, just right, not too bitter. And whisp of smoke. Brilliant. Water improves if nicely.

  3. gallfux did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

For me, the whisky needs some water. It is closed without water. With water it is then in comparison to Sherry Oak again more intense, deeper and darker. Overall but also demanding. If you want a relatively uncomplicated sherry bomb, you can grab Sherry Oak. If you want to play with water and take more time, the soloist rewards you with intensity. But of course you have to pay a little more.
    • Nose
It takes a few minutes, because there is a lot of glue coming through. After a while it gets better. Now the nose is both fresh (probably due to the alcohol) and dark. So Anis alternates with the typical notes of the sherry. Overall but somehow little complex. He probably needs some more water. With water, the dark notes get through stronger.
    • Taste
Yes, the alcohol is felt. Eucalyptus. Plum jam. Blueberry. Blackberry. Molasses. With water some fuller, deeper sweeter and less alcoholic. Only with water does he show me what he can do. Now comes also cherry jam and marzipan added.
    • Finish
      Mon Cheri. Leather. Nuts.

Nice stuff, though the oak is edge of the blade, but water help to get a good balance. 89/90.

Big sherry, dried fruits, caramel, honey, spicy oak, match head and grass.

Powerful. Tannic oak. Sherry and citruses. Honey, cocoa and caramel. Herbals.
    • Finish
      90 90
      Long, fruity, oaky. Sherry.
