Not my personal favorite especially for this price.
    • Nose
Lots of oil on the side of the glass and a sherried nutty nose. I was thinking of smoke but it's a more sulphery touch. After a while most of the sulphur is fading away and defitinely taken over by the orange peels.
    • Taste
Punchy opener and more pepper and ginger than expected. Not a sweet biscuit but a savoury one. After the first acquaintance you get some fruity sweetness and a light oak. A lot of flavours and some complexity because of the different layering. There must be some older whiskies in here to get these flavours out.
    • Finish
Medium and fresh finish drying out in Tobacco and light bitterness.

  2. Kaleva scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Very good whisky with excellent rich nose. Noticeable sherry influence. The whisky name reflects its character very well: a lot of different spices through all tasting stages. However, I expected richer palate after such a great nose. Anyway this expression is really good, to get a bottle isn't that easy nowadays but still possible
    • Nose
Sweet, oranges, sherry, tropical fruits (passion fruits?), lollipop candies, sultanas, different spices: cinnamon, clove, cardamon, floral notes (peony), a bit of lemon zest (more citrus zest and barley after adding water)
    • Taste
Oaky, spicy, slightly sweet, nutty lemon, cheese-cake, dark berries
    • Finish
Short, warm, peppery, spicy, rather dry, slightly bitter, salty notes

  3. Horror_Vacui scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

A strong orange scarf fragrance with beautiful waxy notes. Karamalz, dark red fruits and hazelnuts.

M: A very strong ginger-sharp onion with a good pinch of pepper. It develops very spicy, but also a nice sweetness of red fruits and caramel salt is interwoven.

    F: medium long, sweetish-spicy

Jim Murray has awarded 94.5 points to the Spice Tree Extravaganza. "...complex beauty."

  5. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Just like notes I like, reminds me of nice filthy Mortlachs or Glen Garioch with bourbon sherry mix.
    • Nose
Beautiful orange zest, apricots, dark honey, black pepper, dark malt, caramel, plums, red apple, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg
    • Taste
Powerful, compote, red apple, bitter orange, beautiful ginger and the black pepper, nutmeg, plum, clove, malt and herbal honey, a little fresh tobacco, thyme, toffee, walnut, oak briquettes, grapefruit
    • Finish
Medium long, nicely dry with the tobacco, orange zest and grapefruit, a little dark malt and a few herbs

An interesting rendition. I like Compass Box, and the Spice Tree is one of my favourites (it's one of the new repeat buys I make). This is good, I but I think I prefer the original Spice Tree.
    • Nose
Delicate. Faint sherry, malt, orange, oak.
    • Taste
Sweet arrival with spice undercurrent. Red fruit, honey, orange peel, spice, a watered dry orange liqueur. All very soft and balanced. Oily and mouth coating
    • Finish
Spices emerge more fully. Medium length with spice, orange, and honey.

Although I have expected this whiskey stronger and spicy, he convinces me with a fruity-sweet and very balanced composition. Well done again, Compass Box!
    • Nose
The nose sways back and forth between light and dark fruits: cherries, gooseberries, grapes, rhubarb and figs. Then the spices hit in full: clove, star anise and furniture polish.
    • Taste
After a slightly spicy, oily mouthfeel, the taste is much sweeter than the nose, with hints of caramelized fruit, sugarcane, fruitcake and raspberries.
    • Finish
The finish is medium with a hint of cloves and dark chocolate.
