In smell it is closed. Fruity tones are present, but they don't open up. The Irish character of the Bushmills can be guessed at with good will. But there are also moderately beautiful wood tones and a slight note of glue.
The taste is harsh and bitter. There's none of the smooth fruitiness that makes a good Bushmills. There is plenty of vanilla, but it is masked by the bitter notes. Water softens it, now the vanilla becomes nicer - but not the whiskey as a whole, because it waters down and remains largely harsh and inexpressive.
Bitterness and bad wood in the aftertaste.
It cannot compete with the Bushmills 16 in any category. I even like the 10-year standard from Busmills much better. I think the casks are the problem with this whiskey. I think it has matured poorly and does not develop good aromas. 14 years have not left a good influence here, unfortunately you don't notice them in this whiskey. For almost €70, this is absolutely not a purchase recommendation.
It should be noted that the whiskey in the base and on YouTube has received much better notes and there e.g. B. its fruitiness was praised, which I miss. Maybe this wasn't a good batch or I just can't find access to this whiskey. It's just an individual tasting...
