Knappogue Castle is a brand of the American company Castle Brands, which has since been bought by Pernod Ricard, and markets sourced Irish whiskeys. This triple distilled Irish Single Malt Whiskey comes from the Old Bushmills Distillery, matured in Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry Casks and is 14 years old. It's not chillfiltered, but probably colored. Let's see if he's a good Bushmills alternative.
    • Nose
In smell it is closed. Fruity tones are present, but they don't open up. The Irish character of the Bushmills can be guessed at with good will. But there are also moderately beautiful wood tones and a slight note of glue.
    • Taste
The taste is harsh and bitter. There's none of the smooth fruitiness that makes a good Bushmills. There is plenty of vanilla, but it is masked by the bitter notes. Water softens it, now the vanilla becomes nicer - but not the whiskey as a whole, because it waters down and remains largely harsh and inexpressive.
    • Finish
Bitterness and bad wood in the aftertaste.

It cannot compete with the Bushmills 16 in any category. I even like the 10-year standard from Busmills much better. I think the casks are the problem with this whiskey. I think it has matured poorly and does not develop good aromas. 14 years have not left a good influence here, unfortunately you don't notice them in this whiskey. For almost €70, this is absolutely not a purchase recommendation.

It should be noted that the whiskey in the base and on YouTube has received much better notes and there e.g. B. its fruitiness was praised, which I miss. Maybe this wasn't a good batch or I just can't find access to this whiskey. It's just an individual tasting...

Not bad, but also nothing special. Kind of weird that this dram has 14 years on the ticker. This doesn't seem to taste that old - for me this tastes like a young, elegant whiskey with no real surprises.

Dry, hay, sweet, hint of brown sugar, bit of vanilla. Nose is ok but nothing special.

Not bad! Hint of vanilla again, some citric elements and some raisins. Very classical taste - light, elegant,... All the power and potential of this dram is in the taste. On a second and a third sip I get more complexity, some woody elements as well.

Kind of short, no real surprises here. Bit sandy, some sweets seem to return - lacking complexity.

Not worth the price, scent of cheap liquor that happens to be hidden but way too strong on the finish, I think I may have got a poor bottle but It could also be cheap
