N- Thin layer of oily petro, engine oil filled garage, don't get me wrong, please imagine you are in a posh and clean workshop please (lol). Some earthy notes that evolve to alluring sunflower seeds, nutty and beautiful malt barn. Bright and steel-y fresh mineral filled notes. Juicy fruits of tangerine, orange and perhaps some earthy lychee filled the pack. Quite extraordinary, and solid.

P- Big mesmerizing spicy notes with excellent weight, not a powerhouse but well build with compact fine wood fragrant. Layers of buttered citrus fruit sauce.

F- Long, smooth as silk, dollops of bold yet well balance, fiery yet with finesse liquid gold. Maltose with crushed roasted mixed nuts. A release that make Malaysian proud.

Color
Jonquiripe corn
Nose

honey, caramel, honey roasted nuts, over ripe soft green pear, apricot

Taste

orange, oaky, green pear, dried mango, passion fruits.

Finish

Lingering fruity finish with hints of mangoes, orange and passion fruit. Some oaky dryness as well

Comments

If you let it breath more, the passion fruits become more prominent. This dram really needs air!

Nose

Delicate, smooth, fresh and fruity at first nosing. Orange blossoms and sweet raspberry juice! Vanilla, caramel and oak are coming up after a while. A lovely nose.

Taste

Wow, this one is really tasty! Smooth, delicate and fruity with toffee, sandalwood, ginger and white pepper coming up. Becomes sweeter after awhile.

Finish

Long with notes of toffee and sandalwood lingering on.

Comments

Very complex and tasty, much better than the sister cask 8802.

"This is an upcoming release from Eiling Lim, an official bottling of Glenfarclas, from a cask that she had been following for quite a while since she discovered it in a warehouse tasting.
There aren’t that many 100% bourbon Glenfarclas around, but it seems 1979 has quite a few of them. Usually these “plain oak” casks are hogsheads rebuilt from staves that once formed a bourbon barrel. We’re expecting a burst of tropical fruits.

Glenfarclas 1979 cask #8818 for Eiling LimGlenfarclas 37 yo 1979
(46,9%, OB for Eiling Lim 2016, plain oak cask #8818, 188 btl.)
Nose: very fruity indeed, although rather more on white fruits than on tropical fruits. Oranges, apricots, whitecurrant. Plenty of vanilla, plenty of oak as well, in a nice polished way. Lemon wax. After a while it does go towards fresh pineapples with a hint of coconut. Maybe just a hint of patchouli. In the background there are very subtle herbs, mint and a slight leathery edge.
Mouth: a bit lightweight but nicely oily, and it shows lots of fresh tangerines, pineapples and pears. Not too much vanilla, instead some ginger and green cardamom. Hints of almonds and buttery toffee too. Finish: medium long, with the minty notes, coconut and varnished oak staying strong.
This is a rather delicate example of bourbon matured Glenfarclas, full of elegant fruity notes, including some tropical hints. Very balanced oaky notes and no astringency whatsoever. Really good. Around € 420, available soon.
Score: 91/100"
