This is bourbon, from the MGPI distillery in Indiana.  That is the distillery which also makes the rye whiskey bottled by Bulleit (and Dickel, Templeton, Redemption, etc.) but this is a totally different whiskey.

Absolutely unusual bourbon. I have not tried something like that before. Very interesting and really tasty.
    • Nose
Wow! What a surprise! Very spicy. Grain. Cereal. Nuts. Then slowly getting sweeter with honey and vanilla. And oak. The alcohol is barely noticeable. Super involved.
    • Taste
Powerful and tingling. Spicy. Cereals, cereals and some wood. Could that be a Rye? Mouth filling and warming. Malt. Then getting sweeter. Strong performance.
    • Finish
Warming. Short sweet but then quickly dry. Medium.

Nose: anything but a typical Bourbon. Lots of flavors from the wood. Very nutty with flavors of Nutella, chestnuts, marzipan rum balls, vanilla a bit of mentholic alcohol. Taste: Marzipan, hazelnuts, some Malaga ice cream, intense woody aromas and caramel, vanilla. Also on the finish, this mixture of spicy oak, walnut and now even some typical bourbon sweetness remains.
Very own and impressive. The aromas are not as intense as they are read here and the> 56% suggest. But I do not like it for every day.

Wow, that really suprised me now as the American would say. ;)
I honestly did not have any of this new bottler and this alone brings me to order at least 2.3 more samples from Scotch. A wondrous, but not too exotic part and I stick to it, this is Rye and not Bourbon, the label is lying ..?! : P
    • Nose
Damn, that's something else and smells delicious, I would like to bite or have an ice cream from. Macadamia nuts, chestnuts, almonds, organic nutella, chocolate and nut (Nutella, I know), marzipan, vanilla. I repeat myself, but can I please eat this before I drink it?
    • Taste
Marzipan, hazelnuts, burnt almonds, eigtl. Much from the nose halt, in addition to noticeable 56.3%, probably. try with dilute. WB says it's a Bourbon, but it could be from Bulletin making a lot of Rye and I'd definitely have tapped Rye blindly, hm. Beautiful autumn / winter notes with all the nuts, bakery (rye ..), Christmas stollen (only without large fruits, some raisins a few), toffee, liquid dark caramel and even more Nutella, delicious! With time and salivation, you do not need water anymore.
    • Finish
Spicy-sweet, beautiful chocolate, spicy oak, hazelnut and Brazil nut, yummy!

Conclusion: 88/100 points. The new Independent Bottler "Scotch-Universe" has released its first series. In this series also the so-called "Species U1" is represented. This is not a Scottish single malt whiskey, but an American bourbon whiskey. From the taste profile, it could be a Bulleit, which already distinguishes itself as a standard bottling of other Bourbons. However, if it is a Bulleit, then it would be a Reye Whiskey, since Bulleit in Indiana bottles his Reye Whiskey. The difference in taste is also due to the fact that Bulleit uses about 95% rye content in the mash for his Reye, instead of most 51% (just above the minimum legal requirement). But no matter where he comes from, this whiskey is special. It strongly reminds of Christmas and thus creates a positive attitude. He is fairly priced and will certainly make for many a "wow effect" (but can be positive or negative). He definitely polarizes. • Nose
Wow, what a nose. Surprised. Especially. Burnt chestnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, raisins, vanilla and lots of marzipan. Some nougat chocolate and cinnamon after a long time in the air.
    • Taste
The 56.3% barely noticeable, he overwhelmed directly with rich marzipan and lots of nuts. He is very sweet, but not sticky-sweet, rather creamy. Also in the mouth many spices such as cinnamon. Overall, very interesting. Caramel, some wood. Great. A whiskey for the Christmas season.
    • Finish
The finish is in its whole, nutty intensity rather short and almost chewable-sweet. At the end a bit salty and slightly musty.
