Bowmore, I guess, a good balance, the barrel did not kill the character, while there are many sherry derivatives, there is no sprituosity, very good overall.
It is not clear why they dyed (according to whiskybase information), even if the color would be paler, that's okay, this is whisky not for supermarkets...

Dark berries (blackberries, blueberries, currants), pleasant toasty aromas of coffee with a transition to mocha, cocoa and chocolate. Malty sweetness, forest honey. Mint.
    • Taste

Muscovado sugar, malt, honey and vanilla fill the mouth. The sharpness (peppery or alcohol strength?) bites easily in the mouth.
The dark fruits appear and spread with sherry and sweetness in the mouth and palate

"Pollen count" describes it perfectly, for once I have little to add.
For me an almost ideal balance between great barrels and Bowmore character. On the threshold of 90 points. Or already above?
With water the malt loses imho ...

    a challenging and complex malt
it's great, I liked it, almost drinkable
    he wants and needs time
    • Nose
red berries (compote), cheap raspberry candy, sherry, some smoke, sweetness, slightly dark caramel, oil / workshop
with water: sweeter, more berries, vanilla, slightly gummy

from 1920s: more oil / workshop, earthy, black. Currant !!, tart, slightly dirty
with water: red berries arrive (the rest is tart at the front, the rest is discreet in the background), mini tar
    • Taste
      oily, strong, thump, creamy, sticky
dark berries (Johannis-, Brom-), sun oil, light caramel very dark, sherry, chocolate ~ 75%

with water: softer, more oily, a mixture of sandy beach and tar, mini perfume soap
    • Finish

An amazing nose. I could sniff at it all evening and sink into the glass.
    • Nose
      Online blind tasting ...

      Colour:
      Amber

      Nose:
Starts out very greasy, spicy and pleasantly smoky. The smoke is so wood stove smoke. Slightly ashy. Blackberries, dark cherries and a light fruity, tropical touch. Overripe pineapple and passion fruit stand out a little more from the fruit salad.
With a little time in the glass, the colleague looks sour. The berry aroma now also goes in the sour, fermented direction. Leather is now catching on. Now also becomes meatier with paprika spice. Gravy and some asphalt. Melissa tea occasionally sticks out.
    • Taste
Spicy start. Now comes the maritime broadside. Gets really nice and oily. Ginger sharpness and again the fat, ashy. The fermented, tropical one is also at the start again.
With the second sip, the sour berries come on top. This melissa note and the gravy also flashes in the taste.
    • Finish
Rather long. Spicy and again the ashy smoke. Before it ends sweetly, oily.

Intense, full, great! Bowmores just come across much better at barrel strength. Everything fits, from the nose to the finish.
It's a shame that it is no longer available for 150 €.
    • Nose
Very nice and intense nose. Tender and maritime smoke and full fruit notes that don't just hide behind the smoke, but are directly present. Great!
Cherries, plums, the typical Bowmore passion fruit, pipe tobacco, leather, vanilla, baked apple and oak seasoning.
    • Taste
Nice and strong and amazingly sweet! Full body. The alcohol is well integrated.
Oak spice, vanilla, coffee beans, tobacco, leather, plum with Madeira in marzipan.
    • Finish
Long finish. Oak spice, very dark chocolate, vanilla and plum in marzipan.

One of the best Bowmores I've had in recent years (I must admit, I did not have too many, especially older ones at cask strength). Not too much smoke, chocolate-y goodness, there's some age to it, enough power. All in all a very pleasant quality dram with no real off notes I remember. Well done, Bowmore. Only the price hurts... :-)

A good Bowmore. Good mixture of Bowmore smoke, sherry and wood and that in a high alcohol strength. That fits.
I just have the Laimrig parallel in the glass. The spring tide looks a little fuller and more elegant.
    Nice whisky.

    nose:
intense dry smoke, spices, cooked fruit, a little salty, caramel also with its cooked vanilla in it
raisins soaked with the peat that appears there even a little soot, black fruits on the blueberries, a little noble mold
    mouth:
smoked again then fresher peat, ripe fruit, a melting pot of more macerated fruity scents, limited to maderized, it's intense and tenacious, zan there, still fatty soot, cocoa now with spices pastry, a little wood, lemon and vanilla caramel a little overcooked, but smooth
    final:
    sublime because holds the length, a little bitterness quickly swept away by spices, dried and macerated cooked fruits, on the idea of dehydrated black cherry, still sugar, caramel and cocoa and the smoke which well supplants peat there ;
    long finish.

  31. DulischM scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

The spring tide is somewhat reminiscent of the 18 year old Bowmore, but it is more subtle and not so overloaded with berry flavors. The typical Bowmore smoke comes a little short and is missed by me here.
    • Nose
Dark and sweet berries meet a mix of ripe raspberries and blackberries. Raisins in chocolate smell like a bet with sugary sweet caramel and at the very back a little citrus pokes through it, maybe lime ?! When the whisky has dried on the edge of the glass, it becomes drier and spicy with cinnamon and some cloves. There is also a slightly maritime smoke after fish smoked over a campfire.
    • Taste
In the mouth you immediately notice the sweetness, berry and smoke. After the latter is only in the background, blueberries, blackberries, raisins, raspberries and sour strawberries spread. The Bowmore is getting creamier, sweeter and more berry.
    • Finish
The finish is dark and sweet with a little charcoal on the palate. Then the berries come to the fore again, slowly fading in the mouth.

wonderful sherry-heavy malt, superbly balanced, full and round.
    • Nose
sues with chocolate and caramel, smoky, spicy sherry notes, wonderfully intense on the nose
    • Taste
Lots of sherry, sues with caramel, slightly spicy, very intense and full-bodied
    • Finish
long and warm with smoke, a lot of sherry and oak, a bit malty, wonderful.

  33. Stanzeflasche scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Heavy, thick smoke. Then the fruits rise. Cranberries, passion fruit, pomegranate, goji. It is very tasty. Smoke and fruit gradually come together. The nose is refined over time. In the mouth, it is relatively light, then quite strong pepper, very spicy, which gives way to a warm sherry. Amarena cherry, blackcurrant and blueberry, green apple, finally it's the finish, very long, maple syrup, nectarine, prune. A fine and dry land.

I like it much less in my mouth than in my nose.
    • Nose
Warm campfire smoke is there, but more of a rug than a slap in the face. Fresh berry compote, refined with Christmas spice (cinnamon, clove and cocoa). Chili chocolate and flavored black tea. Almost talisker-like Barbecuenoten.
    • Taste
Berry acid (blackberries), rapidly spreading dryness. The smoke lies ashen on the tongue and bittert something. I miss the sweetness in the mouth something, it was replaced by plenty of wooden bitterness.
    • Finish
      Walnuts and black coffee.

A Bowmore who splits something. For the price he offers simply too little. Little depth in nosing and tasting. Those looking for associations for salt and maritime notes should try it. Thank you Classic for the experience.

interesting dram. serge scored the former version seventy something which is nonsense in my even more humble opinion ;-) . or is this version so much better???  I´m sorry serge, this is a rare moment!
but it´s a little too expensive, so I´m fine with my sample, thank you!
    88/100
    • Nose
seems to be quite polarizing stuff! let´s see:
not over sherried, thank God, cause sherry can kill bowmore imo. no cow dung here but a nice bowmore - tropical - fruits profile (passion fruit and mango) with sandalwood and other freshly polished tropical woods. a slightly ashy feeling.
the smoke is gentle and it tickles and teases my nose. good so far!
    • Taste
quite salty and an immediate sherry attack. the salt works fine with the sherry. still the dried fruits don´t win the race against the maracuja and mangos. (nosing it after the first sip brings out unexpected pencil shavings) second sip: same
salty - fruity feeling plus some freshly fried sardines.
    • Finish
medium to long, slightly peppery and still salty.

    Conclusion and pictures on: https://tomtrinkt.de
    • Nose
The high alcohol content of 54.9% is very well integrated. At first I do not notice any chilling, stinging or burning in my nose. Heavy Sherrynoten in combination with a subtle campfire smoke note are immediately present. A potpourri of a variety of dark fruits forms the aromatic skeleton. Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, figs and cherries caress my nasal tip. Juicy oranges, caramel, strong pipe tobacco, dark chocolate, leather, spicy oak and maritime notes (salt) make for an exciting, varied and complex nose.
    • Taste
Very oily and velvety soft on the palate. The high alcohol content allows a powerful and full-bodied aroma transport. After about 15-20 seconds a slight astringent effect on the palate is already noticeable. A light sweetness (caramel sweets) caresses my tongue tip at the beginning, before it gets increasingly bitter. The intense, dark sherry flavors wrap themselves in a small campfire on the beach. Also in the taste the dark forest berries are to be found of high intensity. The heavy sherry notes with plenty of leather, walnuts, oak spice, pipe tobacco and dark chocolate are gaining dominance while a small campfire continues to glow in the background. The multi-layered and balanced impression of nosing continues seamlessly here.
    • Finish
Long and warm. Sweet caramel, dark fruits, salt and light smoke start the harmonious finish. Spicy oak notes push themselves after some time more in the foreground and leave tender chocolate flavors and a noticeable dryness on the palate. The beautiful smoke will always be present in the background.

Tasted blind as the 9th whisky in my 2016 whisky advent calendar.
    • Nose
Leather after having been soaked in sherry and then dried by burning really smoky peat, smoke, some woody dark syrup, some cream mixed with honey and heather, heavy and really oaky malt with some nuttiness in there as well, salty sea breeze, equal parts caramel and liquorice, a smoky mix of citrus, some 'sherried' dry fruits (almost like from dry tea), a nearly spent fire, a whiff of Band-Aids (pleasant), some old wooden boards kept near the sea, hints of something medicinal and some earthy notes, tobacco, Finnish salmiakki liquorice, a hint of tar in a very fitting way, some kind of oil used for cleaning (very pleasant high-quality stuff), a banana presence develops over time, and rhubarb after a while as well. Quite complex.
    • Taste
Sea, smoke and tobacco, citrus (lime?), nuts, some dark woody syrup, some sweet almond extract, fresh peat from the ground, heather, 'burnt fuse cabinet', caramel, iodine and some mellow but very present oak.
    • Finish
Long - smoke and sea, Fisherman's Friend, burnt fuse, lime, some sweet presence of almond extract, cream and mellow toasted oak, ash, a hint of dried red fruits and vanilla.
