    Thanks to Dyno for the sample.
    • Nose
      It's sophisticated.

      Warm roasted nuts. Lightly citrusy on what I perceive as mandarin juice.

      After a while emerging notes of raisins and sweet apricots.

      An underlying note of quality wood.
    • Taste
      Milk chocolate with vanilla cream.

      Very rich, sweet with light gentle spice.
    • Finish
      On the verge of long, with sherry cask wood, nutty, drying bitterness.

      Empty glass has a very nice smell of sour cherries.

    Notably better than the 2015 version – much more integrated, softer and less extractive. More refill casks, I guess, or at least less active ones, which is all for the better. In direct comparison of the 2015, 2016 and 2017 editions, this one is my favorite.

      A veritable fruit basket on the nose, with some lovely old bourbon-cask aromas. Not as heavy on sherry and active oak as the 2015 edition. I prefer this one by a substantial margin.
    • Taste
      89 89
      Dusty, spicy oak and deep fruit notes (orange and apricot, mainly, but also melon and banana). Lushly sweet on the tongue as well.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Chocolate and coffee, an idea of menthol and/or tiger balm and some oak spice. Still a lot of fruitiness.

    (Blind tasting)
    Hmm, the age is difficult here: I say ~ 17 years, I guess Oloroso sherry influence.

    Conclusion: I like a mature performance.
    • Nose
      At first dense, strong, alcohol-strong sherry nose, a little camphor, but mainly sweet orange and dried apricots.
    • Taste
      Surprisingly gentle on the tongue, alcohol well integrated, the apricots are now provided with umami (a la homemade meat broth), white pepper. Salivation is stimulated.
    • Finish
      Long and persistent, but also earthy-dry and becoming slightly bitter with coffee and dried figs. Finally sparkling.

    An ingenious malt - because you can ever give a courageous rating - they really deserve!
    And ... age does any whisky good ...
    [Color] rich copper;
    • Nose
      ripe apples, raisins, sherry, wood, spicy oak, herbs (fennel, anise);
    • Taste
      intense fruity prelude, sour cherries, sherry, malty, sweet, honey, vanilla, hazelnut, spicy oak, pepper, spices, oily;
    • Finish
      long, warm finish; in the end bitter oak, dark chocolate, sweetness;

  5. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
      Aromatic, buttered, fruity and fresh.
    • Taste
      Vegetable, juicy and easy.
    • Finish
      Fruity, juicy and complex.

      Enthusiasm
      Nose & Finale 4/5
      Mouth 3/5

      Whisky n ° 2004

    I always had him on the radar. Rob called him "Whisky of the Year"
    I have to say, I was not disappointed.
    Instantly bunkered several bottles.
    • Nose

      The sherry should be dominant on the nose. Is he. The full program from plum to raisin everything. Even the distillery shimmers slightly malty through the many years and connects everything together. Well done. Even the alcohol knows its limits exactly. Sweet and sour take turns. As so often with such bottlings, chocolate & caramel are not too short. Fine!
    • Taste
      88 88
      He has plenty of power and spice. But pleasant and not too intrusive. For lovers of bittersweet chocolate a pleasure. You want to pour it again and again. Caution is advised!
    • Finish
      88 88
      The finale is wonderful, medium to long and fine tuned. No dryness and no bitter end. Everything flatters chocolaty and sweet.
      You do not want to stop anymore.
      Dangerously tasty.

  7. dRambo scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    I think the bottle does not last long - incredibly easy flattering elegant, without boring, currently priced just over 80 € already quite attractive, even if you would deal with an Parliament certainly longer.
    • Nose
      Lemon and orange rise from the glass, oily creamy round and fine, oak, tobacco and mint give elegant volume, chocolate gingerbread hearts with apricot filling, sherrytöniges wax with orange oil and more mint - the nose is elegant and moving - beautiful balance of fruit and multi-faceted Oak - which never comes to the fore. After the first sip also red fruits - especially strawberries on the edge of the glass
    • Taste
      first dry, astringent, lots of chocolate and hazelnut cream, then apricot jam - beautiful sweet and sour balance, pepper, fine spicy but full-bodied oak cargo meets orange oil, mint, tingling tobacco and wax. very pleasant not overwhelming without being boring - always a little on the move, complex, not bitter
    • Finish
      warming, fine-spicy, full-bodied, a little ginger, orange oil, again dry - medium long with a long, sustained waxy note

  8. rdfzlyt scored this whisky 100 points Newbie

    fruity, sherry, nice color and aroma

  9. Malthead19 scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

    - an extremely good highland single malt
    - Awesome taste experience for then about 100 €
    - mouth-filling and very complex
    - I find it even more interesting (better) in the smell than in the taste
    • Nose
      noble "old" smell, sweet sherry, raisins, spices (anise), spice (oak), you can smell the "old age / long maturation" very clearly in a positive sense
    • Taste
      Surprisingly strong, full-bodied start, lots of spice and oak, the taste is now more of a dry sherry, a bit malty, pepper
    • Finish
      long, warm, intense finish;
      long spicy, slightly bitter aftertaste

  10. Captain.Islay scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

    Interesting and well matured, harmoniously coordinated sherry influence, complex, fresh, fruity, not too sweet and dry, great!
    • Nose
      88 88
      Orange, forest honey, sawdust, lemon cake, pineapple, Canada balm
    • Taste
      90 90
      Oily, beeswax, mastic, forest honey, white pepper, orange
    • Finish
      89 89
      Medium length, dry, lime, orange peel, green walnuts with skin, damp grass, linseed
