A Ledaig certainly not a crazy complexity but with a beautiful explosiveness and not suffering from his youth. The 55 euros "only" are a real plus also in a context where prices are blazing regularly
    • Nose
We are clearly on the peat, normal will tell you at Ledaig. This peat is more mineral, on iron, and lemony than usual. The farmer Ledaig side is there but much less pronounced. After aeration, we can smell the cooked fruits, candied citrus fruits and honey. At times the cold tobacco and the ashes come then leave again.
    • Taste
Very nice power, the 60.9% are there but not in excess. We are on a greasy and herbaceous peat. There are also spices, peppermint and what I do not know what sweet / salty. There is a slight austerity but not so unpleasant as that. Sherry's barrel is clearly unidentifiable.
    • Finish
Long on peat, cold tobacco and ash mainly.

Tasted after Ledaig 2004 artist 5 SV for LMDW.
The sequence is really not happy.

On the nose, mineral, a dirty side on peat and plastic but also on the medicinal / vegetable side (suze, gentian). It's been a little chick after the previous one and it's not really my cam.

In the mouth I find more ledaig markers but which are a little shy. It is clearly above the nose and so much the better. Mineral and straight mouth before leaving on a herbaceous peat, herbarium of the Alps.
long finish on a slightly herbaceous / bitter sweet peat in line with the mouth. not convinced for once

Pretty strong, due to it's high strength. Hot cream, hot butter, with that Ledaig's pungent smoke. Fair amount of brininess as well. Some mild sweetness of the nose, more like condensed milk kind of sweetness, sticky and sharp.
    • Taste
      84 84
Very sweet arrival, condensed milk like the nose suggest, too sweet to my liking. Hot and creamy as well, all comes together with the ashy smokiness. Tar and charcoal.
    • Finish
      86 86
Slightly bitter, with nuttiness, smokiness, sweetness is still there. Very long.

    • Nose
Vanilla. Stable. Caramel Ben Nevis with a certain minerality. Frank smoke. An interesting mix of fresh and cooked fruits. Almost wise for a young Ledaig. (The bottle has been open for a while now.)
    • Taste
Nice attack, but not aggressive. Spices. This dirty look that we love at Ledaig is there but I had better. Oily texture. A nice sweetness on the honey. Sherry does not show up explicitly. He is older than his age.
    • Finish
Cinnamon. Long and intense, beautiful vivacity, very clean (a height for a Ledaig!)

      Enthusiasm

N: thank god, there’s some funk! Rubber bands, lemon zest, gravel, a little dill even
T: big, huge, rich and buttery sherry. Cherries and vanilla ice cream, Some sulfur
F: medicinal, iodine and band aids. Vanilla. We are in laphroaig territory. Long and rewarding finish, although the competition was weak in this field.

N- Oh, just love the nose melting aromas that make u moan with pleasures (oops~). The hefty strength comes with rich coconut, fish oil, seaweed, camphor and sterno gel.  Diesel and hot tar, tea smokes white oak with whiff of white flower, addictive. P- Direct, spicy, salty, bitter gourd, vegetal peat with nice smoked citrus lemon peel, brilliant and full throttle.

F- Ultra long, kumquat, acidic dry and spicy, everything are up on your palate with no if or but.  A classic peated isle dram.

As with other younger Ledaigs I have some real issues with the nose. At first glance it's quite ok with loads of vegetal peat, smoke and iodine. When I'm really sticking my nose to this whisky however, I get overwhelmed with poor quality grappa, boiled cabbage and rotting swamp gasses.
There's also a little lemonzest in the background.

It picks up considerably in taste with again the vegetal peat, campfire smoke, ash and charcoal. There's also some pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg like spices in the development.

Finish is very long with a touch of cinnamon and long lasting ash and charred oak qualities.

Overall this whisky is a bit off balance, actually a bit too much for me...

Lemon peat, vegetable, cold ash and a slight farmer side. In the mouth the peat is imposing. Good thick texture and well integrated alcohol. Long finish on cold ashes with a tip of Zan. A good Ledaig typical of the distillery.

straw color, slightly farmy nose, peaty, especially very maritime, little sherry. Nice scale in the mouth, fresh, a little mineral and austere, lemony, iodized, cold ashes. Long enough. Well done but not overly complex or enjoyable.

  15. Ivynor scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

No disappointment for the ratio q / p, even if there is no surprise and the sherry does not feel at all.
    86 + / 87-
    • Nose
Very Ledaig, very maritime, with lots of iodine, lemon, very lively and fresh. A little peat in the background. Notes of ashes and a "farmer" side. I do not personally feel the sherry
    • Taste
Oily, oily fish. The rendering is greedy, iodized, sweet as it should. The 60.9% are well integrated. Always a little ashes and farm notes.
    • Finish
More discreet than the rest, with a little ashes and iodine.

Typical and very good young Ledaig.
    • Nose
After pouring a dram the typical Ledaig peatyness immediately fills the room. Sweet with notes of cowshed and a tarry sootiness at first nosing. Some lovely lemon cake aromas are coming up. Very good, if you like peated whiskies.
    • Taste
Powerful, fresh, bold and sharp at first mouthfeel. It bites!

Tons of lemons and peat as expected with notes of raw almonds and smoked fish in the background. Very good.
    • Finish
Long with the peaty aromas lingering on.

This is really a very nice whisky for a very reasonable price. The only thing is that I did not really remove the influences from the sherry vat, but that does not detract from the whisky, enough to enjoy.
    • Nose
Peat, leather, but also sweet, caramel, toffee. Citrus also, vanilla, chocolate.
    • Taste
Full, peppery, peat, ash. Citrus. Sturdy character, adult comes across for a relatively young whisky.
    • Finish
      Medium-long, peppery, fruity (citrus), vanilla.

This needed just a tiny drop of water to give you both barrels, and what a delight.
    • Nose
Toffee, lots of toffee, those high fibre packs with nuts and raisins, thick beef gravy, black pepper, oxo cube, seasoned mackerel and soy sauce. Lots of strong smells.
    • Taste
Quite oily in the mouth and dry, but in a good way, caramel chocolate, lots of spice,  barbecue sauce, and more toffee .
    • Finish
A long dry and quite an earthy spice finish.

  22. Hemdl scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Not a bad malt, though not really surprising or complex, especially since the finish is quite short. Who likes young, powerful malts with a lot of smoke, could find something here. I do not have the recognition value to give really good grades.
    • Nose
Sweet peat smoke, light citrus notes, lots of power in the nose. Young and powerful - that was to be expected. The Sherry Butt is not really much to feel, rather I would have typed here on an ex-Bourbon Cask. Honey, bright fruits.
    • Taste
Powerful start. Sweetish smoke at first, similar to the nose. This slowly turns into dry ash / peat smoke. Citrus notes, also some sweet honey here. I do not really like the sherry influence, but I do not miss it either.
    • Finish
Short and crisp, the smoke and a slightly dry mouthfeel remain over.

Tasted head-to-head with the Lagavulin 12 CS 2016.

Very good complex and dinkable dram at the strength of 60,9%.
    • Nose
Pepper, tar, briny - coastal, seaweed and oily. Chocolate, yellow fruits, vanilla, plums, mint, lychees, lemon and apple. Ashes, spicy curry and figs.
    • Taste
Smoke, peat, ashes, liquorice and black bean sauce. Some orange, citrus fruits, apple and later creamy. Carton, warming and a trace of forest fruits. With water more meaty notes and spices.
    • Finish
Medium drying with vanilla, spices - pepper, oily, ashes and citrus.

    Nice young Ledaig. 2cl sample.
    • Nose
A bigger sherry impact than I expected based on the colour. Raspberry syrup, fudge and somewhat farmy peat. Later whiffs of hazelnut, gingerbread and vanilla pudding. When adding water, there's apple and the sherry is pretty much gone.
    • Taste
Peat, raspberry syrup, gingerbread and dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Peat, dark chocolate and cherry pastry filling.
