I did not expect much, because I find the Red really cruel, and was pleasantly surprised. He is much better! Of course not a highlight, but decent easy drinking fabric and really good for the price!
    • Nose
      79 79
Caramel, some mint, vanilla, delicate orange flavor, despite the only 40% you can also feel alcohol in the nose, but not as bad as the normal "Red", with sweetness towards maple syrup, cloves and some pepper.
    • Taste
      77 77
Spicy, pepper, maple syrup, on the one hand you can feel spicy and hot, on the other hand, the mouthfeel is still rather watery, with vanilla and butterscotch, in the background again the oranges
    • Finish
      77 77
Orange marmalade, pepper, rye spices, subtle bitterness

Jim Beveridge initiated the Blender’s Batch series, which will include three bottles. The first of these is Johnnie Walker Red Rye Finish containing Port Dundas and Cardhu whiskey. The next ones are: Red Rye is "Bourbon Cask and Rye Finish" and "Triple Grain American Oak".
    • Nose
      Sweet, caramel, bourbon aroma, vanilla
    • Taste
      Sweet, oak, fruit
    • Finish
      Chocolate, Pepper, sweet Oak

A nice, non-complex and non - pretentious expression from JW. Very easy on the budget and therefore great bang for your buck!
    • Nose
      77 77
almost classic bourbon on the nose with vanilla, honey, and cherrie. hiding behind the obvious notes I picked up hint of citrus-y notes, with some soft wood and nuts. Not very complex, but well integrated and a good balance.
    • Taste
      81 81
Deep notes of brown sugar and barley sugar, grainy/cereal notes, spices (the rye casks speaking, no doubt) with licorice, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove finihing off on some vanillastick and honey.
    • Finish
      74 74
rather short, spicey and a bit of wood before just vanishing into oblivion.

Watery malt, with bourbon rye notes

  6. EnjoyLife89 scored this whisky 72 points Expert Junior

Unfortunately does not come from the fags. Is too weak on my chest. By that I do not mean the alcohol, just everything around it.
    • Nose
      Sweet, vanilla, cereals
    • Taste
      Sweet, spicy, malt, wheat
    • Finish
      Wheat, spices, malt

Easy drinking, good value for money. Not every painting has to be a Da Vinci...

  8. LukasJakubDrabek did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Why should a man drink Scotch that smells and tastes like a cheap American bourbon whiskey?

    Edit: Okay, now I understand.

Beveridge said the be 'light style, along the lines of an Irish or Japanese whiskey', but with 'American whiskey signifiers'.

In addition, Red Rye Finish marks the first time that the blending team has considered the whiskey application in the cocktails as a key part of the production process.

Rye, cake, baking spices, oak cask, vanilla, furniture polish, cream brûlée, caramel and citrus notes on nose.

Rye, spices, cream brûlée, maple syrup, caramel notes on palate.

Middle finish with spices, vanilla, oak cask, cream brûlée and maple syrup notes.

This is an interesting experiment with cask finish, Johnnie Walker in rye whiskey, more american than scotch.

  10. markjedi1 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Very quaffable – and dirt cheap – Walker, which will work wonders in a cocktail, but is also quite enjoyable neat.
    • Nose
It is quite bourbonny on the nose, with loads of sweet rye, caramel, nutmeg, pepper and some citrus fruit. Nosed blind you would be forgiven for thinking this American.
    • Taste
It is very easy on the palate, partly due to its sweetness. Vanilla, caramel, some spices from the rye and a hint of chocolate.
    • Finish
The medium long finish offers more vanilla and spices.
