Bought it because it was described as a fragrant whisky by several authors.

      That's how it happened.
The aroma is at the core of this whisky.
You can smell meadow flowers. Very floral. Actually!
Then you also have dry, hay-like moments.
A peat fire smokes in the far background.
      Nice complex nose.
Not your typical sherry or bourbon malt.
      Very independently composed.
    • Taste
      80 80
      Less complex than the nose.
The peat smoke comes a little closer. The floweriness is not transposed so much into the taste.
      Some oak tones are recognizable.
      More dry than sweet.
      Relatively balanced.
      Subjective mood-dependent perceptions.
    • Finish
      79 79
      Short to medium length.
      A little oak.
      Hardly any floral aspects.
      Dry.

  5. Andytka3 scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

N- Sort savoury pepper malt with sweet spices come thru. Lots of pressed citrus and small stoned fruits that similar to Taiwanese Aiyu. Pineapple juice, toasted oak and edgy dry and acidic at tail. Evolved to sour dough soaked in dried fruit of prune juice. (87/21)

P- Deep wood nuances with well packed natural sweetness of honey, citrus, candy and spices. Rising buttery, overall creamy with spicy oak sphere and soda dry. (86/20)

F- Medium, nicely dry, weighty finish that sunk deep on lower palate, nutty. (87/21)

B/B- 87/21. A very good basic malt for relaxing or after dinner sip. Elegant dryness. (87/21)

    Weighted Rate- 83pt

  7. Glen Valley scored this whisky 77 points Expert Junior

A beautiful everyday whisky, which demands little from the connoisseur and lets him dangle his thoughts.
    • Nose
      75 75
A typical Speyside nose, fruity floral.
However, rather flat and the sharpness of the alcohol comes through too quickly. So altogether too little flavor to place him in the luxury segment.
    • Taste
      79 79
A clearer balanced entry-level whisky without complexity and development. Significantly milder than in the nose. Immediately reminded me of Aberfeldy 12yo.
    • Finish
      74 74
Disappointing because very short without additional development. But no bad surprises.

  8. Crann feàrna scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

A shame of the added caramel and needing the 43%. But it did get the 43% abv, and that is a good thing. It tries to be a friend for all (without any peat) and it tries a bit too hard.
With a little water the nose gains a lot but the taste doesn't. The finish is unaffected by the water.
    • Nose
      83 83
W/o water: sweet, bubblegum, icing sugar, grain, bread. Perfumed.
W/ water: more complex. Sweet and bitter fruit. Warm, savoury notes.
    • Taste
      81 81
W/o water: the arrival is a sweet heat. Swiftly into the development of hot juicy citrus; oranges and tangerines. But definitely hot.
W/ water: sweet arrival and immediate development to sweet sour bitter citrusfruits.
    • Finish
      82 82
Oaky dryeness in a citrussy finish, quite long and staying dry.

  9. Crann feàrna scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

A decent daily dram. Not complex or challenging. Not remarkable or particulary noteworthy. It is masterfully crafted in not being offensive, and that is its strength.

  10. MacArthur scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

very nice and soft on the palate, so I bought this great 12 year old standard at the great price-performance ratio already 2 times
