My conclusion after tasting this: light, delicate and very appealing to me. By far my favorite sample of this years line-up so far. Aged in an ex-bourbon barrel for at least 15 years, but probably closer to 20, 48%, quite a lowlandish profile.
It could be a Littlemill... hmm, that might be a too costly sample, so maybe it's an Irish whisky (Midleton or Cooley)?
So it turned out to be a Benrinnes: maturation, age and abv were pretty good guesses, with the distillery I was way off (as usual).
Nose: light, floral (lavender), syrupy sweet, lots of vanilla, pear, honeydew melon, a grainy cookie note, canned tangerine parts, faint lemon, almonds, mint, icing sugar, subtle cinnamon and a slightly dusty wood note.
Taste: oily with a syrupy sweetness to it, pears, peardrops, sweet citrus, vanilla, subtle pepper notes and some mild herbal bitterness.
Medium length: vanilla, a continuing juiciness of pear, subtle citrus and canned fruits, also a kind of green bitterness ending with a slightly peppery and drying wood note.
