Fantastic Dram, thank you Dad! One of my all time favorites.

A wonderful and strong malt. One does not necessarily notice in the 39 years, but you can take it off him already. I'm excited. If not so expensive I would access there. Great experience.
    • Nose
      95 95
In the nose as the first knight sports Jamaica rum. The in the small blue packs, with raisins, a lot of rum and this milk chocolate cream. It is sweet, creamy and heavy. A nut braid with lots of hazelnuts in it but the whole glass of Grandma's rum raisins is heavy on the glass bottom.
Gets fresher with time. Mint flashes, alcohol comes slowly through this heavy blanket.
Strange, normally it's the other way around. First the alcohol then the rest.
I find smoke but not a very spicy note, possibly from the smoke but also properly from the wood.
    • Taste
      93 93
A very soft but full on.
The whole mouth is full as after a hearty bite in a juicy cake. Salivation without end. At the tip of the tongue it brightens always stronger. Not from the alcohol but from the oak. Strong wood tones come to the fore, but always interwoven with grandma's rumrosine glass.
And now it's getting weird! Under the thick fog come red fresh fruit. Strawberries and red! Currants.
    • Finish
      90 90
The finish is surprisingly short and almost a bit disappointing. Nice espresso notes and great dark chocolate.
Never bitter, but subtle bitterness. I like that but the finish is too short.
But that is whining at the highest level.
For me, a dream of a malt.

Important to know that this is a smoky Benriach!
The one year younger Benriach Port Cask 1977 is thus a non-smoky Benriach (WID 85896)

The smoke is barely noticeable after so long. Rather, it is the spice, the oak cargo (sweet wood / a bit musty), the dark fruits, raisins, black chocolate and a lot of espresso on the finish that make up this malt!

    • Nose
Very old leather, walnut liqueur, huge wood spices, a little funkiness (some warming sulphur I'm afraid). No typical 1976 fruitiness, a bit dull and dirty instead. The peat is not detectable, some iodine can be found instead.
    • Taste
Fresh nuts, sweet, the palate shows body, rotten celery, celery salts, some tropical fruits, very meaty, some sulphur but okay. Spicy and woody, little mints, walnuts liqueur. Feel like an old wine.
    • Finish
The aftertaste brings back little tropical fruits, still heavy chocolate flavors.

Not very complex, but a successful BenRiach, which owes its structure mainly to the peat.
    • Nose
Initially closed - takes time in the glass. Concentrated sweetness of grapes with strong but pleasant wood in balance.
    • Taste
Sweet tingling malt, followed by grape must and spicy wood. At the end, there is a peat note. Medium body.
    • Finish
Medium long and malty - peaty with grapes and light acidity.

    Bottler's grade

Color: Dark mahogany with ruby edges.

Aroma: Rich black currant syrup combines with dark orange marmalade and gentle waves of smoke from burning heather bushes.

Taste: A silky, sweet smoke infused with dark fruits and mixed citrus peel. Delicate tropical notes appear on the palate, followed by a more intense, ashen wood smoke.
