The nose is fantastic, the palate has some good but easily turns a tad too bitter.
    Finish is delightful though.
    Thoroughly enjoyable dram

Stewed fruits, its apples and peaches soaking and getting ready for some dessert making. Obvious aromas of dry cinnamon sticks followed up by whole peaches, namely the skins.
With time there are some buttered toast notes with a selection of homemade jams open and ready.

Very fruity on the palate, here its red apples with autumn fruits, plenty of berries red and black. Even with the age it's still spirit forward, no slowing down even after 29years. The berries and autumn fruits are turning tart. Oak and spice is holding strong.

Black currant jam, sticky and sweet with some cinnamon and the faintest hint of oak.

This was my first BenRiach so my point of reference was other popular sherried drams like Glendronach and Glenfarclas.  The nose was really unique on this one, had there just been a bit more of it and a better finish I would've scored this 90+.
    • Nose
The sherry has done its job imparting prunes, plums, and spices, but then the smoke makes its way.  Very interesting that I can't detect any peat... just smoke.  Mixed with the sherry sweetness I'd have to agree with markjedi1 it's almost like BBQ sauce.
    • Taste
At first quite spicy, but then chocolate, prunes, plums, old saddle leather, smokey sweetness and something herbal.  It's viscous, oily, and bursting with flavor.  The age is more evident in the mouth than nose.
    • Finish
Medium, oak, and leaves a lasting sting on the tongue as well as bitterness.  Once in a while I get something rubbery.

Recommended! I have said before that the combination of peat and sherry is not always easy for me, but often very good. This BenRiach is a good example of that. It has become all but unfindable, unless you are willing to fork over 325 EUR.
    • Nose
On the nose it seems as if all kinds of dark fruits like figs and plums are drenched in a barbecue sauce. Lovely combination. It has a green garden herb like note, but it is the fruit that dominates and draws your attention. Round and rich, juicy and… succulent, that is the word I am looking for!
    • Taste
The arrival is wonderfully creamy and coats the tongue immediately with all those wonders from the nose, upholstered with loads of spices (cloves, cinnamon and black peppers). A smoky marmalade of raisins, figs and dades, with some orangettes and freshly ground coffee beans in the mix. Don’t you dare add water to this – this is easily quaffable and delicious!
    • Finish
The finish is pretty long and warming, but remains dark and sweet until the death.
