It is not as overt in its sherry nature as you might think; far more restrained and possibly better for it
    • Nose
certainly seems to fit into the oloroso sherry mould, a sweet spicy burnt raisin; some initial mustiness when you first nose after coming back to it
    • Taste
rich fruit, again like a rich fruit cake
    • Finish
medium, the bitterness/tannins is kept under control giving a warm ebbing

  2. DramGoodLife scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Not my preferred style but a diverse whisky which shows a lot of balance and unique character.
    • Nose
One of those powdery ones, little dusty with hints of a holey rug. Tweed jackets with leather patches worn whilst walking by an old dock in the evening, the smell of oil in the air.
With time earthy, muddy notes appear with some dried figs and dark chocolate from the sherry casks.
    • Taste
Fat and oily arrival. Muddy leather jacket and an old varnished chest of draws. Some hints of strawberries in there backed up with salted nuts and a little cinnamon root.
    • Finish
Oak jumping to the forefront here, drying with some dusty and powdery notes.

I agree with Sensefreak. The Whisky is developing a lot in the glas. Also warm hands are effective in bringing up new aromas. I found a wonderful Whisky with loads of typical Glen Scotia aromas. The nose is simply wonderful with dried fruits, sherry and dark chocolate. The first sip is a little harsh in terms of alcohol, but then it is evolving a lot in the mouth with a long lingering finish with also dry and sweet aromas. The sherry cask aromas are very subtle integrated in a well balances Glen Scotia experience. Another proof, that this Distillery is still producing some "old school" Malt Whisky from my oppinion.

    SMWS Tasting Notes

    Flavour Profile: Oily & Coastal

    Colour: Amber

The nose starts with dried dates and figs, polished wood, leather and hand-made Iranian carpets (a Middle Eastern market?) – Eventually finding other fruits (apricots, stewed plums, baked apple) and sweet coconut (like Peshawari naan) – definitely Eastern, exotic and alluring. The palate combines deep sweetness (malt extract, syrup of figs, muscovado) with lots of wood, spice cupboard warmth (turmeric, garam masala), tree-bark and eucalyptus. The reduced nose finds black rococo tulips, liquorice, leather and Fernet Branca (props for a Hammer film perhaps). The palate has manuka honey, black tea, All-bran and Demerara crunch – now sweeter and lip-smackingly more-ish – a serendipitous discovery.

Drinking tip: After dinner with espresso or when needing a laxative.
