We do not comment on the packaging, do we? Springbank has always done things a little different, and success has proved them right. On the nose, faint peat smoke, mineral freshness and rich sherry notes combine with nuts, concrete and odors of an old TV screen. The palate takes you on a journey through the flavor wheel: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and savory, it's all there. A real shapeshifter, both complex and well-balanced, culminating in a long, substantial and semidry finish. At only 12 years of age, this cask strength whisky could hardly be any better!

I like it a bit better than its predecessor. If you knew exactly how the barrel composition was ... As always, there is an awful lot to smell and to taste. Complex and balanced, but with the right dose of "dirtiness" on the way.
    • Nose
There it is again, the beautiful 12 CS - nose: sea salt, dried fruits like apricots, but also fresh mandarins and oranges. Everything wrapped by meadow herbs. A small smoky note is there at the beginning, but evaporates quickly again. In the beginning he was rather fresh and maritime (sea salt), after a while earthy and heavy notes come to the fore. Leather and tobacco notes come, always accompanied by mild herbs and later black pepper. The alcohol is very well integrated, nothing stings, and a whole range of flavors you get delivered.
    • Taste
Powerful start with neat pepper over the fruits. Here again come the apricots and mandarins, but also tropical fruits such as mango and papaya are to be guessed. A little violet strokes the tongue. In addition to mild licorice are still young, freshly oiled oak planks, notes of freshly tanned leather and milk coffee. Mouth-filling and spicy / peppery for a long time. After a while, red grapes are coming.
    • Finish
Long and spicy, with residual sweetness of grapes. A touch of peat.

Absolutely awesome! You can not say anything else!
    • Nose
Oranges, mineral and maritime notes, light smoke, orange peels, sparkling fresh, meanwhile apricots and mirabelle plums, at the end freshly peeled orange peel
    • Taste
Sparkling oranges, strong onset, light smoke, very mineral, sparkling and slightly peppery, powerful but pleasant spice
    • Finish
Smoke and mineral oak, again a lot of orange peel, very sweet, lots of warmth, nice long finish

    Extremely bold and delightfully raw.
    • Nose
As a TV repair man I can testify that this smells like opening the back of an old wooden TV cabinet that's just blown a fuse.

Prominent sherry, but it's kind of "dirty" and quite sour.

      Stale cigars, butterscotch.

Wafts of a lighter general fruity note and danish pastry with sugar icing.
    • Taste
Full power right off the grid.

Initially I get dried and hard salty beef jerky with lots of green pepper.

The meaty notes changes quickly to chocolate covered black sherries.

Bitter espresso and a couple of fatty walnuts.
    • Finish
In my book this qualifies as long.

      Hot, spicy, warming, leathery.

I like it very much. With the addition of water it becomes fruity and elegant without losing its power - 01.04.2017
    • Nose
Red berries, strawberry jam, rosehip, oranges, coffee, caramel, sand cake, very minimal smoke is to be guessed, but really only very distant, with water it is fruity and floral
    • Taste
Pink pepper, dried fruits, honey, syrup, marshmallows, dry, no smoke here, candied walnuts, spicy, slightly salty, oak, even in taste it is fruity with water
    • Finish
      medium

Spring's phenolity is still more interesting from 18 at least. Although this batch is very good

Not super complex but so nice. Leather, marshmallow, dunnage perfection, marine air, hemp rope, creme brulee. Nose and palate are equally delightful. No awful sulfur to contend with.

On the negative side, it takes water surprisingly badly for a Springbank 12 CS. More than a few drops of water really tends to ruin it. I will only drink it full strength. Usually, with Springbank cask strength releases of all kinds, I tend to apply some water, but not in this case.
