Funny part, actually acts like carbon dioxide, in combination with the bright fruits quite nice, missing a little rounding and 2-4y more.
    • Nose
Flowery, quite round for the%, raisins in fine cognac, apricot, blossom honey, sweet banana, brown sugar, sparkling, grapes, fennel, lavender
    • Taste
Very sparkling, perfectly contained carbonated notes, beautiful honey, light raisins, peach, all 1912 cocktail and bellini in it, apricot, sweet malt, fine oak notes, pear laid in honey, with all but also alcoholic side notes
    • Finish
Dry apricot, grapes, esthernotes and honey, medium-long

    • Nose
Sweet and creamy, rather round. Not very expressive at first, it evokes a woody time of a bourbon (quarter cask?), Or even grain whisky. Crème brûlée, roasted notes ... Then floral notes, and even an exotic signature at the Hellyers Road!
    • Taste
Very beautiful for the age. A mixture of strength and finesse. Vanilla, banana, exotic fruit if you are patient.
    • Finish
      Nice presence with sweet spices.

A whisky that takes time to indulge. Each sip was better than the previous one. Patience will be rewarded!

      Enthusiasm
      Nose & mouth 4/5
      Final 3/5

Chichibu Chibidaru is high quality stuff. Blind, I’d be amazed if you could tell it was no older than four years – such is the underlying quality of the Chichibu spirit. This (sort of) QC hasn’t allows the wood to run riot – possibly because rather than being newly coopered, the oak is derived from a hogshead which has been used at least once, possibly multiple times. A such, the influence here is much more subtle than it could have been – the naturally estery distillate shines as the wood has been used for maturation, not for imbuing a ton of flavour to mask youthfulness.
    • Nose
A mix of orchard and hedgerow – apples and pears (both reduced and seeming syrupy) alongside redcurrants and gentle raspberry. There’s a lot of floral influence here – cherry blossom, umesha plum liqueur and musky incense. Running throughout the nose is a malty mix of cereals and underlying earthiness – quite soil like. The addition of water adds stone fruits (peach and apricot) as well as introducing a slightly mineral character.
    • Taste
A big arrival delivering impact, sweetness and then a large helping of spice. Slightly more tropical than the nose – pineapples and mangos (tinned) combined with brown sugar to start. These develop, reasonably quickly, taking on bitterness and spicy from intense pepper. In the back palate, sourness is apparent – akin to tart grapefruits – it sits rather well as a polar opposite to the rather saccharine arrival. Water is a real leveller – now we’re talking – the bitterness, which was a little biting before is now reduced, fruits are both dusty and slightly syrupy and light tobacco and leather have been introduced.
    • Finish
Quite long with tinned fruits (slightly tropical still) dusty pepper spicing and tangy tart citrus.

CHICHIBU chidibaru 2010-2014 53.5%: A certain youthfulness on the nose, we especially feel the alcohol mixed with floral and malty scents.
In the mouth a strong but not aggressive whisky. It reminds me of what you smell in the spring in the fields is floral, there is hay and it's still pretty round with hints of honey.
The honeyed / creamy side puts the youth and the final is not drying despite the high abv A consistent whisky easy enough to drink well done as a whole but not really complex.

    N-
Scents of flower, vanilla, brandy soaked raisin, fruit cake, cocoa and
creme brulee. Not overly sweet but all in perfect harmony with dose of
    ashy. Well rounded and firm.

    P- Absolutely delicious, mango,
banana on a layer of soft young wood. Direct and forward, creamy and
rich flavour balanced with good strength.

F- Smooth with medium length, pleasantly throat clinching with fine syrup. Another young bastard from Ichiro.

Good whisky, warm. Take a little water. If you add a little more water, an apricot taste comes to the fore. Comparison with the Chibidaru 2009: In the nose is from bottle the 2009er better, smells more intense. The 2010er comes as little. But then in the glass, the 2010er balanced, the wood is much less dominant than the 2009er. I am correcting earlier statements which is better due to a blind tasting of both at the same time. I prefer the 2010er now. That does not mean that the 2009er is not good, it is a comparison on a high level of both. If you drink the 2009er alone, he is a pleasure. You should not drink them at the same time, because they are quite different. New German: You nothing the same model is ferschiden that. 9 mer wi forest that, why nothing forest in 2010. Is nothing the same nothing drinke together, then 2010 bizzeli better high niwo both has. No bath in the water, better little bath. What do you want with the Wisgi - ki? Buy 3 tank bensin for it, can run away on the road one bill, because nothing brews, the vil expensive. have no, also good.

Note by Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com:

Chichibu 2010/2014 'Chibi Daru' (53.5%, OB, Japanese malt, 6200 bottles)  Ex-quarter casks. Hope the oak won’t dominate this baby, but I do trust these makers… Colour: full gold. Nose: hold on, we aren’t far from the Mars at all. This Chicihibu’s just a little more floral, and a little less grassy. Perhaps. A notch rounder, better polished, and then a little more mentholy. Patchouli, incense… In a way, it’s a little more ‘Japanese’. With water: pink grapefruits aplenty. Love pink grapefruits. Mouth (neat): excellent. Full, immediate, very satisfying, all on sweet barley and ‘moderate’ tropical fruits. Guavas, for example, and tinned pineapples. I find this extremely good. With water: becomes creamy, fruity, with, once again, pink grapefruits. Finish: quite long, oily, syrupy (but that’s good syrup). Pink grapefruits, really. And green tea. Comments: the result of a lot of care, and of little marketing. Marketing 101: make the best product you can. Then, market it. But who am I? No, seriously, it’s like at winegrowers’, the ones who make the best are the stars. Simple. All the rest is utter codswallop, and no army of brand ambassadors (love you lasses and lads) will manage to alter that simple equation. In the short run, perhaps, but in the long run, never. Ooh I need a last dram… And let’s make it that new Karuizawa I was talking about… SGP:561 - 87 points.

There is no young barley spirit recognized despite the rather young age. Really well-matured.

    (Rating interval 86-90)
    • Nose
Spicy oak, nutmeg and cumin seeds. Some kind of subtle smoke in there but absolutely not peat smoke. Strawberry-flavored candy (wine gum). Marsmallow, vanilla and some berries (red or black) as well as some rubber. After the addition of water some fruits appear, apple and mango. The vanilla becomes more clear.
    • Taste
Sweet and sour arrival with soft vanilla, creamy and oily texture. The vanilla becomes sweeter on the development, but also lemon drops and exotic fruits, banana and melon.
    • Finish
A dry finish with soft vanilla and black pepper in the lead and some exotic fruit that leaves quickly.
