Aroma: open, fresh, sour green apples and unripe apricots, even a little apple cider vinegar, wet earth, leaf compost, minerals, plaster, pickled notes, spices from the same brine. Further a hint of sweet tones - vanilla, caramel, menthol. Very unusually fresh, sour-mineral aroma and at the same time there is some stuffiness.

Taste: bitter citrus peel, ginger, mint, chalk, minerals, herbal medicinal extract, spices, vanilla, slightly sweet.

Finish: bitter-citrus, ginger, herbal, very simple, of average duration.

    Rating: 82

The result: an interesting initial molt, rather unusual, in the aroma seemed to me very similar to Tobermory 10. Probably a little 40% is missing in taste and finish, but in principle it looks like a complete product.

really liked the nose but the rest was not to my liking.

    • Nose
surprise: I can smell campbeltown. slightly ashy with a hint of smoke. not as fat as springbank but still...!  salty, slightly sour, perhaps some lemons.
haven´t had that much glen scotias so far. they have all been a bit boring but this one really surprises me, well, at least on the nose.
    • Taste
oh, on the tongue it´s disappointingly different.
very thin mouthfeel, almost watery. rather sweet and very spicy but a little dull. slightly alcoholic and all the dirty aromas don´t show on the palate.
    • Finish
      medium to short, dull

  4. Gloin scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

The smell is very pleasant, ripe and fruity, spicy and sweet, exciting and harmonious. As it should be. And also the mouth and the finish provides all that. A more classic whisky, not overloaded, but still interesting, maybe a tad too smooth. blind tasting
    • Nose
Sweet and fruity, orange and raspberry, freshly cut wood, vanilla, grated lemon balm, coniferous seeds
    • Taste
Oily body, pleasant whisky on the tongue, the onset is gentle, sweet, milk chocolate, apple and orange, light bitterness
    • Finish
Oak, gentle and mild, caramel, some burnt sugar, cream caramel, medium length

This OB, which we would like to see at an higher ABV, clearly shows the potential of Glen Scotia and makes clear that others in Campbeltown can also produce good whisky. Very good price/quality ratio and recommendable. 85 points.
    • Nose
Pleasant surprise! Head start on feinty and peaty notes; plastic, leather, wax, and peat of the maritime kind. We also find dried fruits, grainy notes (peel) and vegetal impressions of leafs and perhaps some mint. Some hints of sherry.
    • Taste
Now it gets much more woody (toasted oak), spicy (pepper, cinnamon and liquorice) and peaty (some smoke and diesel). We taste also some grain and vinous sensations; muesli bar with chocolate and nuts. A bit weaker, but still present some smoked cigarettes and cheesy notes shine through, thus making this a broad palated dram which remains quite salty all the time (which we like mucho).
    • Finish
Mouth filling and rather long finish, nicely dry and smoky. A mild acidity keeps it very fresh and vivid.
