A solid, SOLID Bowmore (not in the literal sense ofc.). I'm very tempted to cough up the 80-ish clams for a bottle. It's a distillate-forward whisky for sure, so: me happy. The cask is doing its part, but not much vanilla/coconut is to be found here. Mostly, it's showcasing the distillery's style: pu-erh tea, wet leaves, a bit of fresh tobacco and bananas. Fresh effervescent saltiness. The form is impressive, nothing is happening too suddenly, it moves forward with ease and medium pacing into a long finish. An 88 mark without breaking a sweat. In conclusion: más, por favor!

May not be an excellent version of Bowmore. Nevertheless, having tasted it a couple of times over the course of two weeks I can certainly confirm that it is a good dram, illustrating a clear profile of Bowmore in the nicest way. Substantially better than any regular Bowmore, and even for an indie an above average one, for the 14 year old. An average 84 mark on WB is well underestimating the experience. There are not that many relatively available AND good versions of Bowmore. Picked up a bottle for 60 eur and could not ask for more.

Liked the nose but the taste was on the bitter side for me.
    • Nose
Bowmore. Soft peat, wet wool, austere. Citrus, some wax and chalky, sandy notes. Then there is some sweet version of hessian.
    • Taste
The taste is allright but simple. Lots of hessian now, plantroots and quite some bitter notes.
    • Finish
      Less salty, more on wood.

Had this dram first during a blind taste event (Proef Olympics Ledendag 2) as the 5th dram (after the welcome dram), and later on re-evaluated a bit i had left in the sample bottle.
    • Nose
For me clearly an Islay profile: peatsmoke, bit meaty and typically matured on bourbon casks: vanilla and citrus notes. Also some pears present.
    • Taste
on the mouth quite ashy and less peaty. It was a nice round full body.
    • Finish
finish quite dry and some roasted nuts, next to this coastal peaty style.
