A roller coaster wood juice. Remind me of pigs fed with ractopamine, a food additive that reduces fat deposition and increases muscle growth rate of live stock.
    • Nose
      82 82
The nose opened with a strange note of contaminated cork, bacterially rotten grease, wore carton boxes and moth repellant tablets! What a combination! These then combined and faded into camphor, which became nicer. More pleasant aromas followed. Ink appeared first, then dirty sherry notes, like walking in a damp forest. Sawn woods also appeared, and quite some caramel. There's also Sprite, hawthorn flakes and burnt sugar. Things became even nicer by now, and dirtier. But would the distillate still matter in a setting like this?
    • Taste
      80 80
Strong taste of dried dark fruits. Tart cherry and plum are obvious. Lot of caramel, and too woody, these rendered the palate a little too bitterly. The mouthfeel is quite dry.
    • Finish
      80 80
Despite the bitterly palate, a whiff of sweetness appeared just at time of swallowing, and a faint hint of mint. There's an aftertaste like drinking water in sun baked plastic bottle, if not resin.

Bit too sweet for me, but nothing actually wrong here. Pretty well balanced for a this kind of dram.

The tannins, wood and heat in the palate gave me something else to focus on, than just a range of dark fruit sugar tones and again the tannins also add some contrast to the finish.

    A dessert whisky for sure.

I do wonder what the Aultmore spirit actually tastes like, as the oloroso has really made that difficult to ascertain.
    • Nose
Thickly resinous, cedar tree sap, even thicker molasses. Sloe and Damson gin, bitter herbs, dark cherry conserve, bourbon vanilla and a little wood polish.
    • Taste
Sweet dark chocolate-cherry fumes and cooked, dark fruits. Undiluted ribena with fizzy ginger heat gains a pine edge as dry tannins and wood surface, which taste sticky here.
    • Finish
Aniseed balls that have lost a lot of aniseed but are still sweet. Some of that tannic wood dryness persists. MoM nailed the dark fruit pastilles note here, but I'd also add original Ricola too.
