Whisky Reviews for Nikka NAS

  1. Archer scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

This Nikka-bottling without age makes a good impression, but looks quite young.
    • Nose
Does not open directly, rather reserved.
Over time, tropical fruits such as mango and papaya show up. In addition there are floral notes. Light orchid scent.
      The nose remains very restrained.
    • Taste
The palate continues the floral taste. Add to that the taste of freshly cut hay.
Some salt and pepper. Some oak.
    • Finish
      Medium long with tendency downwards.

  2. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Acts a bit rough and young and although the flavor is in principle, that does not come across quite enthusiastically over. 43 € / 0.5 (or 60 € / 0.7) are not much for Japanese today, but he would not be worth it to me.
    • Nose
short citrus notes and tropical fruits, a little flowery, then sweet, dull, caramel, sweetish tobacco, some smoke, is getting drier
    • Taste
sweet, rather heavy, spicy (there is sherry and oak), malt, nougat, burnt sugar, tobacco, leather, earth, pepper ... a bit gruff
    • Finish
      medium length, chocolate, pepper

The most important of all 2 NAS (with Nikka's Yoichi!)
Many fruits, caramel, too discreet alcohol for my taste!
A simple, sweet finish for this whisky based on green fruits with a little spice
Good as an aperitif, good digestive so as not to bother your head!

  4. Remko scored this whisky 83 points Expert Junior

    Simple, yet surprisingle complex.

Fruity, malty, leathery, dry, briny, peppery, earthy, oaky, somewhat smokeyYoung thought, but not bad at all.A good daily average dram.

  5. Cicero did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

blindly I would have typed a Scottish Highlander near the coast
sweet and fruity and finally this touch of sea and dirt (Japanese oak?)
    also an easy-to-drink recommendation
    • Nose
      could also be a Scot
      no smoke
      fresh citrus
It takes a few minutes in the glass until the flavors are released
red berries, the fruits become darker
In the background is also discreetly some "dirty" note of the sea and docks
Burnt lye pastry would be too much, but that's the direction
    • Taste
      mild
red fruits become stronger without them becoming too dark
sweet fruity and at the end a touch of oak barrel
when the sweetness, fruit and spice have gone, then comes at the very end of this "dirty touch" to the fore
    • Finish
      dry oak

Really not bad in the absolute, but beware the price is for 0.50 l; to relativize so even if the "exotic" side of this bottle can constitute a plus face the competition.
    • Nose
Smells of fresh and cooked fruit, puffs of pastries, spices are accompanied by floral fragrances to the appearance certainly a little "chemical" but which bring a little exoticism.
    • Taste
The palate is neither really complex nor really powerful, but elegant enough to offer a pleasant array of fruity notes (apples, pears), spices (pepper, vanilla), pastry (barley lollipops?), And vegetal ( chicory, tobacco) accompanied by a slight bitterness (tea too infused). It seems to me that the fade of this set improves significantly with time in the glass.
    • Finish
Moderately long, it ends on a nice touch of smoke.

  8. Rom scored this whisky 81 points Expert Junior

Nose citrus, flowers, iodine, cereals, white wine. Sweet mouth, malt, cereals, hint of honey, well integrated alcohol. Medium and warm finish. Good.

I could go on and on about this Japanese whisky. I like it in every aspect … even the price.
If you want a very good daily dram this is what you’ll need. It gives you all the bang you want for your bucks. I love the fruitiness, a little tobacco, leather polish, raisins, plums a touch of smoke and a sweet bitterness to make it complete. Easy drinkable but powerful enough to make the enjoyment last for quite some time.

  10. KayMeertens scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

It just lacks maturity, but apart from that this is a pretty enjoyable whisky. No glue or nail polish that I find in many Japanese whiskies.
    • Nose
Apple juice, caramel, pear, citrus, vanilla and a whiff of smoke. A lot of sharp spirit which betrays its young age.
    • Taste
Apple, caramel, pepper, vanilla and barley sugar. Again pretty rough for its low ABV.
    • Finish
Caramel, apple and a whiff of smoke.
