It's very similar to the Speyside Region 1973 Good Vibes from TWA but a little sharper and more dry - on the other hand less sticky and more fruity. Well, this is actually like splitting hairs. It's fantastic anyways!
    • Nose
Intense, honey, sweet, exotic fruits, mango passion fruit, overripe bananas, hints of vanilla, but also some citrus fruits - really a mixed bag of fruits - great!
    • Taste
Punchy, but very oily and creamy, creme brulee, quinces, lemony, subtle sweetness, reluctant notes of oak wood (for 40 years) - excellent!
    • Finish
Medium long, warm, little bit more dry, peppery and zesty

A benchmark - the nose is so dense - you can cut it, she has a tremendous stamina with excellent flavors without a false mark, without weakness, more than I would have expected - dream fabric
    • Nose
      98 98
Super intense sweet and sour exotic fruits mango, passion fruit, pineapple, melon, peach, orange, honey, wax, black tea with bergamot, jasmine, orange blossom, vanilla cream, a hint of old smoke from which the years left almost a shadow have - almost no discernible wood influence
    • Taste
      96 96
An intensity monster - a tiny drop on the tongue unfolds - mouth-filling - exotic fruits, oak, wax and herbs - as long chewable, always new facets show up while the Malt is slightly tingling and with dosed alcoholic power can play its charm
    • Finish
      93 93
warm, medium long with a hint of mint and a long finish of wax and fresh herbs on the tongue

[August, 2018] Another undisclosed Speyside region malt, another Glenfarclas? We will see...

...I am not sure, it could well be another excellent naked (meaning not sherried ) 'farclas. I know this one matured in an ex-Fino sherry cask but this cask added almost no sherry flavours to the spirit so I guess this was a 3rd or even later refill. But finally I do not care as long as a dram tastes that great, actually. I wish I would be at the Sansibar right now (what is the most famous bar on the island of Sylt - the most exclusive of all german islands in the North Sea) to finish this dram with dignity...

The colour is old gold and the nose offers loads of different fruits - more than my olfactory cells can manage to take in at a time. There are mirabelles, apricotes, grapefruits, bananas (the small and very sweet ones), guavas, mangos, peaches - I stop here because it makes no sense to list them all. Besides that I sniff a lot of different honeys too, among them such delicious ones like the legendary Manuka from New Zealand. The wood is very shy here despite 40 years of maturation - it generously lets the stage to all the fine distillate-driven aromas and provides just enough backing that there is some structure instead of chaotic dancing. Really beautiful but still very different compared to other extremely fruity drams (like the legendary Bowmores of the sixties). But this one is (almost) on par...

The taste is nicely layered and balanced on all these wonderful fruits again but in later layers some fine spices pop up (ginger, nutmeg, white pepper) that provide new and interesting impressions. The barley sugars and honeys hold back until the last layers but than they literally jump into the light only to be caught by the final wooden notes of the last layer. It is as if a beautiful (unboring) movie runs on your taste buds. Water is not needed as it turns the dram much sweeter and hence a little unbalanced.
    • Finish
      91 91
The initial mouthfeel is very charming and coating but this does not last for very long, unfortunately. The finish is of a medium length and gets a little bitter and drying from the woods that now have the say. But it never gets unpleasant or distracts from the fine symphony of flavours that vanishes slowly, finally.

Awesome whisky! I'm sure that have the best 2% of I've been tasting.
In addition, it was in incredibly good price / value ratio. 92/93.

Wonderful, fresh and sophisticated. Acacia honey and linden flower with a touch of mint.
Abundantly rich in fruits: banana, black currant, peach and melon. Verbena candy. Citruses.
    • Taste
      93 93
Strong, oily and sweet. Exotic fruit essence. Especially mango, apricot, tangerine and banana.
Along with the slightly hot white pepper and ginger the oak comes nicely. Honey, wax and nutella.
    • Finish
      92 92
Long, sweet, fruity, spicy, fresh, mentholic.

A masterpiece of a Whisky. The best I had in my glass sofar and I tasted almost 500 Whiskies. I paid 400€ for it but it was worth every penny.

The nose is fantastic. The mouth and the finish are very satisfying but perhaps less fascinating.

Both immediate and deep, sensual and refined: curved, racy, slender, voluptuous are the adjectives that immediately come to mind. A bomb.
We are obviously in the fruity and sweet registers. Jams and coulis (slightly tart white peach, red apricot, mirabelle plum). No heaviness because citrus swirls (yellow and green lemons, kumquat) give pep. The agitation reveals lovely strawberry notes. There is also a base which tends towards creamy (beeswax, honey, patinated woodwork) with some more dirty accents, very light but which still give a more attractive dimension to the whole.
    • Taste
      93 93
Pretty body, both fine and curved. Fruity and spicy beeswax.
    • Finish
      94 94
Fruity, long, persistent, with fruity notes, beeswax and weathered wood.

What an incredible composition, of which everyone should have something at home, certainly comes in my top 25 of all time so far.
    • Nose
Probably. one of the most exciting noses so far, cinnamon stars, then again passion fruit, lemon drops, passion fruit, some anise, then again cinnamon spice, beautiful honey notes with herbs, oregano and thyme, vanilla, overripe banana, some mango, a little green apple as well, toffee, speculoos
    • Taste
In the mouth the concentrated, powerful load of everything that was in the nose, passion fruit juice, cinnamon stars, Christmas bakery flavors next to exotic Caribbean, mango juice, rosemary, thyme, some clove, baked apple, raisin pudding, banana, green apple, speculaas, marzipan and almonds, Anise, some orange peel
    • Finish
Here comes out the cinnamon, some nutmeg, vanilla, herbal honey, banana with shell, thyme, licorice, sweet malt, long to very long finish
