Had this one in a blind tasting, and as soon as the first farmy scents arrived in my nose, the distillery was clear for me: Ledaig :-). Sweet smoke, hay, ashy.
But actually, for me it didn't have much more to offer than that. With even a bit disappointing short finish.
For me it's certainly not one of the best Ledaigs, but still a pleasant one to end a blind tasting session with.
    • Nose

Very farmy immediately, hay, earthy, peaty. Pretty some of all, and ashy. Full scent.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sparkling, pungent, but after some time more smooth. Still a lot of hay and sweet smoke, the farmy character remains. Also some room for sweet notes now.
    • Finish
      85 85
Pretty smooth, sweet smoke. A touch of bitterness, bitter ash. Actually not that very long.

    Tasting: April 2021
    • Nose
Sweet cherries, red berries, very nutty and burnt grass.
    • Taste
Initially creamy, but with some oily notes. Then the peat appears, with red berries, mild spices and some pepper.
    • Finish
Sweet red berries and some wet hay, a little licorice and in the distance a weak note of sulfur.

Part of ‘HWF Thuisfestival’ edition 4. A very consistent Ledaig expression.
    • Nose
Rather fresh in Ledaig terms of speaking. Other then that it’s very recognizable as such. Sweet earthy peat and farm-like flavors. Simply lovely.
    • Taste
Soft and ‘dirt’ like. Sweet like in oranges but then smoked. Some bitter cocoa and a touch of cigarets tobacco.
    • Finish
Ashes, dirt, vanilla and smoking oak wood. Definitely a fine dram! Would not be a Part of ‘HWF Thuisfestival’ edition 4. punishment to drink this on a weekly base.

Limestone, sweet sherry, fresh red berries (strawberry, raspberry and a mild cherry note), nutty and mineral with a vegetal peatiness. Some burnt grasses and also shortcircuited electrics. Finally an old dusty wood note (like my grandfathers toolshed used to smell).
    • Taste
      90 90
A round and creamy mouthfeel, oily. Starts out pretty sweet with the red fruits like cherry and raspberry, but eventually turns into something more spicy, with burnt grassy peat and a clear note of spent matches (sulfury notes I can still cope with). Also some chili peppers emerge.
    • Finish
      90 90
Long: sweet red fruitiness, liquorice, a little dirty and slightly sulfury, chili's, charred pine tree bark.

  25. Rowald Sweet Empire scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Refill sherry and Ledaig is the best combination in my opinion. This one has the classic old ledaig smell and taste. It has all the dirt, wood, peated motoroil, campfire, rotten wood/forrest/moss, mustiness you'd expect from an older Ledaig. Plus it contains all the classic sherry red fruits. This whisky is close to perfection.

This was really good even by Ledaig standards. The comment in my un-edited short notes I wrote when tasting the whisky was simple "Bazowie". It was quite bold and peaty for its age, much more so than the 18-year-old distillery bottling, but still let plenty of the sherry character through.

    • Nose
Wet rocks. Slightly farmy too, kind of a mix of mineral and vegetal peat profiles. Matches soaked in strawberry jam. Sandpaper just after use. Grass fire. Olive oil.
    • Taste
Easy at first, cherry halls lozenges and a little shoe polish. And then bam! A huge hit of waxy fruit, fruit oils and vegetal peat. Some more fruit bursts onto the palate on the swallow, mainly yellow cherries.
    • Finish
Long. Farmy notes. Oil smoke. The charred basting off a good roast. Cherry flavouring.

Great stuff once again, I absolutely love this profile!! Very, very smooth, it's not too high on abv and with my 1st dram poured I was a bit disappointed. The 2nd was way better and shows a very nice balance between the peat, smooth sherry notes and the typical 'dirty' Ledaig profile, a bit muddy/cowstable scent and taste.
Nose is very gentle, sweet and dark fruits, peat of course and saltiness. Seaweed and mud.
Taste follows the nose, very smooth, not an abv monster, just very smooth. No where near the robust peat Islay monsters, except some sherried Caol Ila OB's. Nice!
