    -Blind tasting-
    59%, Ex-Bourbon Cask, 6yo, Penderyn Peated aged in Laphroaig Cask. Leaning out the window.
    The nose takes some getting used to at first, but that wears off, especially after the first sip. The development in the nose is very exciting, on the tongue and in the finish it is very straight.
    In the end it is a whisky with 66.3% from the St. George's Distillery, at least the age and the type of cask are quite well taken... Blind tasting is eye-opening.

      An aroma in the nose that I can't really reconcile with anything I've had in the glass before. I think I can make out smoke, but no Islay smoke. Herbal and very spicy. Underneath (longer) worn socks and an old, dilapidated leather sports bag. It tends towards rancid butter, chain fat and now there are also maritime notes and seaweed, the rancid note has meanwhile disappeared. Now open up nicely and deliver smoked ham, some lime juice and a spice mixture of thyme, rosemary and marjoram.

      On the tongue then with a mighty smoky start, and here the impression comes that peat is the source of this aroma. In the nose, the peat smoke aroma comes out much more clearly after the first sip. Lemon and grapefruit flavored fizzy sticks, lightly sizzling on the tongue. Smoked pear wedges. A mixture of finely tart herbs, thyme, rosemary. Dry wood is now added, chain fat, seaweed, warm tar, wet pebbles. It is much more stringent on the tongue than on the nose.

      Medium length, noticeably dry wood, still with intense peat smoke. Funnily enough, right now I even have to think of a distillery from Islay south coast, which is not responsible for this fire, but may have contributed the barrels. At least that's my impression. Fascinating.

    Very intensive and, above all, changeable smoker in the nose. Could easily rival Islay's south coast. Loves it and doesn't need water.
    • Nose
      I have noticeable peat in my nose. It evolves a bit over time. First strongly tart and a bit maritime to a subtle citrus fruit on vanilla tart, only peaty. Many herbs indeed, lemon thyme.
      The nose becomes a little softer with water, more fruit, more vanilla. But also a little more gym bags.
    • Taste
      Strong, peppery, slightly dry astringent in the mouth, herbs, heavy smoke and very strong mint, pepper and also tart associations, without thinking too much about the barrel. Salty, definitely.
      With water, the salty and the maritime disappear, leaving rather dry smoke and a little pepper. I think off the top of my head that you should rather take smaller sips pure.

      Long on smoke and herbs, some mint and also salty, maritime.

    Light yellow, gold, lots of thin legs.

    N: Nice greasy smoke with malty hints, but very mineral. Getting kind of salty. Musty leather sports bag confirmed! "Burned" confirmed. +W only saltier. gunpowder, fireworks.

    G: the minerality is confirmed, very classy, very smoky, more like water. +W sweeter, but still powerful and smoky.

    A: kinda...rusty. Even with water.

    F: nice smoker to tune in (with water) but no profile of its own. Quite my format, but replaceable.
