    [July, 2020] A review of a sample...

...of a true sherry monster dram which is rather liquid wood soaked with high-proof sherry than malt whisky (there are hardly any malt flavours to detect at all). For lovers of extreme bitter-astringent sherry drams only - personally I think this was bottled way too late...
    • Nose
      87 87
The colour is very dark at brown sherry and the nose offers a trademark "sherry monster" profile with both massive walls of sherry and wooden aromas which completely kill all malt impressions, unfortunately. The sherry itself is fine and flawless but it does not offer a complex bouquet. The wood is at the edge of getting annoying but luckily it did not cross it. A fine heavy sherry nose but this could be any malt from any distillery...
    • Taste
      84 84
The taste is sherry, wood, wood, sherry, wood, sherry - stop: Could this be a malt flavour? Ooops, it is gone before I could check it... Again wood, sherry, wood, wood. Is this whisky? I doubt - legally it can be called "Inchgower malt whisky" but there are neither Inchgower nor malt whisky flavours in this taste (my taste buds are too dull, most probably). This dram is drinkable but it is not really enjoyable (to me), sorry folks!
    • Finish
      81 81
The initial mouthfeel is hot and very drying-astringent both from the sherry and the wood. Same with the finish which is long but dry as a dinosaurus bone and it turns very bitter towards the end. To be honest, this dram was bottled more than five years too late. No, this does no pleasure to my taste buds - sorry folks! And forget water, it does not improve anything...
