Nice tobermory, apart from the PLV a great thing.
    • Nose
      89 89
Slightly scented, but not unpleasant. Oranges and raisins, followed by slightly sour-maritime Tobermory notes with oak, iodine, brackish water, then dark fruits again, dark red cherries, slight hint of spice towards cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice. Spicy? Definitely! Christmas? Not necessarily, but it fits Christmas.
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweet, syrup, creamy without too much to be concrete. Distinctive oak, caramel, orange peel, flavor otherwise no concrete fruit notes can be made out.
    • Finish
      89 89
Long and spicy finish, again with orange, candied fruit, oak sets in.

  2. Othorion scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A good malt, the finish does not look set, but gives a nice composition
    • Nose
Overripe dark fruits, cherries in rum, raisins, behind a fine citrus note, a hint of cinnamon
    • Taste
Dark chocolate cherries, nutmeg, a hint of ginger, toffee,
    • Finish
Dark chocolate, spicy, medium, nutmeg, roasted nuts

i guess the 20 yo has been finished in a proper portion of px sherry casks while the 15 yo matured in gonzalez byass oloroso casks. the bourbon casks are more dominant in the 20 yo.

overall the 20 yo appears with a much more noble character and no smoke compared to the 15 yo that carries a noticeable hint of smoke.
    • Nose
      mulled wine, raisins, gingerbread, vanilla
    • Taste
powerfull, sweet, oily, chocolate frosted cherry cake, vanilla
    • Finish
candied orange peel, oaky, plain chocolate, kelloggs smacks. extended finish.

Tasty is, and not as "oversherried" as his tormented brother of the same age. However, I like the 18-year-old from the Bourbon barrel somehow better. More interesting. And at 160 € I do not have to play anyway.
    • Nose
Christmas. Speculoos, gingerbread, pot of mulled wine, raisins, matches - fits.
    • Taste
"Cherries in dark chocolate" from a prescriber sums it up quite well, reminds me a bit of dominoes - gingerbread, chocolate, fruit jelly
    • Finish
long, peppery-sweet, orange jelly, dark chocolate, and here the oak tree reaches again neatly

  6. pianoman scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Fermented grapes, slightly sour. Yellow raisins, a little vanilla, black cumin. Paprika spice.
    • Taste
Soft and sweet at first with honey and dried fruits. Then malt, caramel, some sage. Medium.

    Tasting Notes by Weinquelle Lühmann

Aroma: Rich and warm with molasses and golden syrup, mulled wine, nutmeg and Christmas spices with walnuts, sultanas and dates.

Taste: Deep rich oak with caramelised oranges and old-fashioned orange marmalade, notes of vanilla, dried fruits, hazelnuts and dark chocolate.

Finish: Long, sweet and nutty with persistent notes of apricot and orange confit.

  8. Totoro scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

The freshly opened bottle seemed very floral, artificially sweet, almost perfumed. Once oxidization has worked its magic however, it's a different story.
As soon as the filling level goes about halfway down, suddenly there it is: the lovely saline, savory character Tobermory bottlings aged 20 and over tend to acquire. Now it's all mulled-wine spices, refill sherry nuts & fruits, gingerbread and speculoos - all wrapped up in the signature Tobermory algae / brackish water / sea spray aromas. Really good stuff, but you sure need to have patience with this bottle.

    fair puddle
    Direct comparison to other Tobermorys
a solid paints me too flat to average and the grain bothers me
    • Nose
starts understated and weak, good malt, light sherry, cereals, popcorn

later: light vanilla, slightly buttery note, apples, peanut !!
    • Taste
full, round and strong on the palate
dark malt, liquorice, spicy, peanut, oak comes easily, a lot of grain and cereals
    • Finish
      medium to long
tart, light oak, slightly spicy and becomes more

      espresso comes very late

In addition to the sherry notes, like many others, I have Christmas spices and fruits. Likewise also the somewhat perfume-like notes.
In the mouth, it is now significantly less intense, comes across less important and looks more oak-dominated.

I still like my nose quite a bit. But could be a little more present. He then somehow lacks volume in his mouth.
