    Notes by Serge:

I’m expecting a ‘mezcaly’, that is to say a totally distillate-driven youngster – all for the good and perhaps even the better. By the way this one was ‘hand picked by TWE’. Good that they don’t use machines, sniffers and such. Imagine, ‘Selected by an Iphone’… Colour: white wine. Good news already. Nose: I could keep this short and just write ‘yes’, but I’ll still mention seaweed, limey smoke, beach sand, iodine, grass smoke (garden bonfire) and oysters. Loch Gruinart oysters, of course. Mouth: but-it-is-totally-mezcaly. It’s even agave-y (kind of the same thing, S.) Smoked fish and olives, plus a thin coating made with custard and light honey. That’s the barrel speaking out. Finish: rather long, super clean, maritime, smoky, seaweedy, mezcaly… Some would call it a fishermans’s dram. A Mexican fisherman? Comments: BFYB. Well done TWE! Totally up my alley. It's young, flavourful and nicely balanced. Highly enjoyable and affordable too.
    • Nose
Seaweed and iodine as well as some lime juice and hay. Wet rocks. And light, subtle wood smoke, from a smouldering campfire.
    • Taste
Charcoal, tar and smoke. A pinch of salt. Quite rich and well-balanced with a hint of honey and sweet fruit to round out the palate.
    • Finish
      Long, peaty and smoky.

The price/quality ratio is good. I upgraded my score from 87 to 88 after the bottle had been open awhile. You'd best like chalky, ever so slightly yeasty young and as such a bit rough stuff if you think this could be your bottle.

In the event you already have this one and like it, AnCnoc Flaughter and Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2008 may also appeal to you.
    • Nose
Woodsmoke and sweet lemons. Eucalyptus, seawater, faint wood from the cask and a bit of rubbery peat.
    • Taste
Smoke, flint and lemons. Really quite sweet and fruity underneath the char. Slight chalkiness. Very straightforward.
    • Finish
Could stand more complexity but it lingers long enough for such a young one. IMO youth shows in the way it's very similar from start to finish.

You nose it and you know it's great :) surprisingly strong flavour for 46%, nice smoke, strong but not too much, nice choice. At least 89p for me, go get it.
