Man oh man! The #Diageo limited releases are getting up there in price, but there's some stellar drams to be had in them. The key is to #TryBeforeYouBuy if possible. Not usually an option in Ontario, so I'll exploit it as best I can.
    • Nose
The nose is lively Sherry spice cake and malt, old library books and dry leather. The nose goes on so long. Autumn leaves and boiled sweet, dried tea leaves and almost a hint of Madeira.
    • Taste
The palate, sweet spice and incredible depth. The old armchair and dusty library tomes come back, sweet bakery goods and almost a touch of cherry cordial.
    • Finish
The finish is a showcase of depth. Sit down for this one as it's long, autumnal fairs and polished oak cabinets, more dried leather goods and hints of farmy stables. Cherry cordial carries in and is met with more sweets but much richer.

    Tasting Notes by TWE

Nose: Waxed apples and sugar-glazed apple turnovers, drizzled with
spiced custard. Custard tarts dusted with nutmeg appear over time, with
vanilla cream, toffee and hint of butter icing not far behind. With more
time in the glass, musky notes of sandalwood and earthy spice develop.
Palate: Salted toffee, stroopwaffel and blackcurrant jam to start.
Icing sugar and sherbert come next, run through with orange oil,
resinous touches – Heston Blumenthal’s pine Sherbet Fountain – and hints
of new-oak spiciness: ginger and clove. Water boosts the sweetness and
ups the richness, adding crème brulée touches.
Finish: Shreddies with milk, raspberry syrup and fudge – the perfect breakfast.
Comment: If you like your whiskies sweet and sticky, this one is for
you. It never gets too sweet thanks to a whack of savoury notes that
bring it back from the brink.
