    180ml bottle for ¥1130 @ Lawson's.

Appearance: Reddish golden-orange. The wine barrel is clearly apparent.

Nose: Raisin, honey, vanilla, wine, citrus, light banana, bit of wood spice. Cinnamon. Still quite closed up. Nicely fruity though.

Palate: Sweet raisins, malt sugar, vanilla, caramel, orange, light banana, lots of cinnamon, cookies.

Finish: Honey, peppers, tannic wood, alcohol burn.

With Water: Slightly more wood spice in the nose. More citrus and esters. More cookies, less heat. A few drops are good.

Overall: Fruity, sweet and spicy. Not bad at all for a young whisky. Still quite hot. Body is not so impressive. Somewhat thin. It’s not bad value at MSRP, but definitely not worth the premium prices they ask.

Palate proves very disappointing after a fresh, convincing nose. Finish turns out ok in comparison, but is nothing to write home about per se. No big interest to be found here, really. Lacks the fruitiness and the balance of older Yamazaki expressions ; hell, it's not even a patch on the distiller's reserve.
    • Nose
Juicy green fruits like kiwi and watermelon but with a honeyd sweetness to round it off. Big floral whiffs as well with lavender, eau de toilette, lime ... Some marshmallows as well. And somewhere comes a salty, dry maltiness like sesame seed, even some spring onion at some point ... I'm liking it ! I think it's a very fresh and coherent nose, with an enjoyable load of fruits.
    • Taste
Well, the appreciation stops here. It's not that watery texture-wise, which is ... good news I guess, but alcohol integration tastes (very) poor to me and there's just no aromatic power whatsoever to fight against it. Globally green and acidic, with light vanilla ... but that's pretty much it, alcohol (even at only 43% !) seems to keep the rest (if any) locked. Generic, poor, young and unbalanced.
    • Finish
Slightly better now, leafy. Green apple, some shy vanilla again. Slightly bitter and metallic but that's ok. Some stone-y tones at the end. There's an austerity that's actually quite welcome.
