Whisky Reviews for Balblair 2000
6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 81.75 points
- Start of a Balblair tasting. I tasted 8 different Balblair's of which this was the first.
Rather disappointing I must say.
Raw, hay, straw, little honey, hint of canned fruit. Overall this nose is immature.
Fresh cask. Little straw, some honey. Distillate driven. Tad bitter.
Short finish. Sugar, a bitter note. And fades away with some tingling alcohol notes.
- Part 6/8 of a Balblair range share. Before this I have tasted the standard 12, 15, 18, a ‘05 vintage (#116591) and a ‘04 vintage (#53670). That last one was by far the worst of the 5. Hopefully I like this one better.
This is a rather weak nose. Neither very outspoken, nor exciting. some pineapple, sawdust and unripe citrusfruit. Not much more to say about it.. bummer!
Again rather weak. Light and delicate is one thing, this is just too light. Like in the ‘04 white pepper at least gives you something to chew on but not very enjoyable. With water a little more caramel fudge appears and the white pepper is less present. That is positive.
In the short finish there is pineapple again as well as bittersweet apple. Hints of barley and a slight buttery note. Almost cake-like. Again not much depth, complexity or whatsoever. Strangely enough the finish is the part that ‘saves’ this whisky. It is the most pleasant part.
Fortunately this one doesn’t beat the ‘04 in worst Balblair in this range so far, only because of the finish.
- Quite distillate driven whisky. This Balblair gives young pineapple, white grapes and green apples combined with some malty sweetness and spices. The body is quite nice and a tad oily. Nothing to remember for a long time though.
