Whisky Reviews for The Peat Monster Reserve Edition CB
12 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.59 points
- a very direct torfer, but rather with a sweet note, clean peat and relatively little barrel. Tame for a "monster".
fruity, citrus, maritime, mineral, wet stone in the sun, with time vanilla, sweet and clean. The peat is there, rather as a side aspect, but you do not have to look for it.
very bitter, surprisingly bitter after the nose, also very strong. Pepper, eucalyptus, very direct.
again sugary sweet, clear peat notes, towards the end a little sweetness and tart notes alternately.
- Jim Murray has awarded 92 points (Whisky Bible 2010) to The Peat Monster Reserve. "...at times a bit of a sweet Monster...beautiful stuff"! Pure matter of taste...

8/8.5 Classic, dry Islay peat. Huge phenol, kind of abrasive, mostly delightful.
8/9 Surprisingly sweet and balanced. The peat reek sneaks in on the end, but the maintaste is honeyed and robust and distantly charred.
So smooth as to be more elusive than chewy. Your mileage may vary, but I find this lightness to be an asset.

In the aroma sweet, sticky, fruity peat, citrus ... Ardbeg ... more grass ... malt ... burnt match ... smoked fish (22)
Soft, fruity, smoky ... nuts and a little anise (braga?:)) (21)
Finish ashy, fruity, soft and creamy ... slightly spicy ... caramels and wax (21)
- Colour: Honey
Nose: Complex, obviously very heated, but many flavours scramble through. Peaches and citrus.
Taste: Peaty/smoky. fruits; both citrus and dried.
Finish: what a treat! an orgy of flavours
