On the nose, peat, then a peat relan, there we know!

On the palate, the finer peat (less aggressive, less chewy) with lemon that soothes the appetizer, so alcohol well placed

In the final, a return of smoke on the peat, always present

Monolithic Blend, who does his job, ... for those who love!
    • Nose
much less pronounced than an Islay, but also sweeter, much thinner than a spey, with more sustained notes on the floral and vegetal side,

    A sample from ronnholt.
Not sure about the batch number/bottle code, but very sure I enjoyed it.

It's peaty alright, but not really monsterous.
Maritime, sour, wet moss, lightly medicinal.
Highland components make an interesting foundation for the typical Islay notes. Some fudgy caramel that give a very nice depth to it.

Upfront peat and smoke. But much sweeter than the nose.
Gradual build up of some peppery spice.
A hint of nuts showing up for a brief moment in the middle.
This turns a bit stale and brakish as the peat takes over towards the end.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Nice lenght. Warming spice lingers.
Almost fat with quite a bit of sweetness.

Enjoyable Islay blend with Caol Ila pronounced.
A bit exaggerated the monster name. :)
    • Nose
Sweet peat, smoke, citruses, salt, grass and herbals
    • Taste
Oily, sweet peat with salty waves. Smoke and tar.
    • Finish
      Medium length, bittersweet, oily, smoky

    Brackish Notes
It has been almost 6 years since I last tried The Peat Monster from Compass Box. In the meantime this vatted malt (oops, that must be blended malt now) is part of their so-called Signature Range. We know for sure that it contains Caol Ila and Ardmore – two malts that I quite fancy – so this will surely be to my liking.
Smoke, peat, banana and light brown sugar. That is the nose of this whisky in a nutshell. Well, with a big dose of alcohol in the mix, of course. Something milky shines through which I cannot remember from the previous batch. Coconut milk? I quite like it.
The arrival is fine. Mildly oily with the fruit first, but that is quickly swamped in maritime elements. Smoked fish, seaweeds, brackish notes. The pepper and mostly the cloves give it a spicy edge.
The finish is very long on liquorice and pepper.
I keep having difficulty with the name – for this is not a peat monster in my book – but certainly not with the whisky, for that is simply delicious.

N- Solid, intense aroma of floral smokes at first. Tar, hints of fresh grass reveals with gingseng herbal and hot salted sands.

P- Gentle gingseng roots tea smoke, herbal with sweetness build up overtimes.

F- Long, moderate spicy with touch of candy and nutmeg bitterness.
