Only for hardcore Mortlach fanatics or those who've always dreamed of mixing a lovely Speysider with some bitter tonic water. Tired casks do not compliment the Mortlach distillery character, let's leave it at that.
    • Nose
In equal measure musty and tartly fruity: rotting biodegradables, wet rag, and damp newspaper, but also green banana and freshly cut honeydew melon. Bone-dry white wine. No oak whatsoever. A bit incongruous, to say the least. With much goodwill and patience, there is perhaps something to be said for this nose (originality?), but yeah: no.
    • Taste
Juicy and mild arrival with pronounced citrus, and for a long time, nothing else. Then the melon reappears, but any fruitiness that comes up has an unpleasant tart edge to it. The citric zing persists until finally, some shy dusty oak comes in. Very inexpressive and bitter.
    • Finish
Zingy, fresh, on menthol and tart fruit. Appears much younger than its stated age. Astringent and bitter.

immediately freshly cut grass, hints of red fruit, granny smith apple, sweetened barley, honey, light caramel
    • Taste
      87 87
little spices, fresh fruit such as granny smith, oak, dry and sweet,
    • Finish
      84 84
dry, long, light bitterness of the oak, fresh, almonds

  4. Wiz scored this whisky 89 points Expert Junior

Nose: oak, really a lot of wood. Bright fruits. And yes, there she is ... the gooseberry! unmistakable. Would any beginner recognize. some honey, lime, some orange. Taste: Hmmh .... yummy, gooseberry, lime, again a lot of oak, cereals. Fruity fruits ... like a good dry wine. The fruit sweetness is very subliminal .... which makes it very interesting for me. Finish: medium in length. Wood and gooseberry slowly fade away. Comment: I am excited! A simple whisky really polarized. Absolute recognition value. 89 points

  6. KayMeertens scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A less present bourbon influence than in the 1997 cask 7129 & 7180, and clearly more spicy and grassy.
    • Nose
Grass, honey, peach, vanilla, apple and a cookie maltiness.
    • Taste
Dry, grassy, spicy, but soothened by honey. Apple, hay, ginger and vanilla cookie.
    • Finish
A burn of chili pepper in the throat. Almond and honey.

  7. Ich did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
      slightly fruity, oak, plum
    • Taste
      peppery, strong and slightly sour
    • Finish
long lasting, full, with some oak
