    Color: golden red amber
Nose: grain, musty, figs, sherry all light no alcohol punch, with water notes of raisinbread.
Taste: sherry, some sulphur, blackberry, more spice then on the nose.
Finish: the dark sherry note and metal, very long and dry.

    Context: Tasted blind

    85/86.
    • Nose
Mainly creamy caramel. Then dark honey, peach and banana. Faint dried berries in the background. When adding water, I suddenly smell the fur of a horse, but also more honey and a little mocha.
    • Taste
Again caramel upfront. Now mocha and more dried berries. Again a bit of honey and banana. Water makes it a bit nutty and releases tads of spice and tangerine. More bitterness instead of sweetness.
    • Finish
Caramel. Faint peach, banana and nuts.

I quite like the nose, but the palate is just out of balance. It does have all the thing you'd want from a sherried whisky though. Some of 'em just a little too much.
    • Nose
Lots of red fruits, with strawberry jam in a starring role, but cherries and raisins too. There's a touch of oak, accompanied by grapefruit and mango. And a whiff of smoke. Quite delicious!
    • Taste
Syrupy and quite thick, but really drying as well. Quite oaky. Dried plums, dates. And plenty of cloves, chili pepper and ginger. A bit of sulphur. Sweet and spicy probably sums it all up. Probably too spicy. And a bit too dry as well.
    • Finish
Dry and long, with lingering spices.

This dram is quite shy at the start and needs quite some time in the glass to reveal the more heavy tones of dried fruits and mocha that are associated with sherry cask maturation. A wee drop of water can help you here. But once it’s open the sherry influences are clearly noticeable. An elegant and well balanced Tomatin expression.
So a tad shy at first, but quite lovely.
    • Nose
A fresh, almost sparkling and light whisky with aromas of grains, apple, pear, mint, caramel, grapes, white wine, fennel, honey, lemon zest, floral tones, green tea, yeast, some Turkish delight, berries, mocha, subtle tones of dried fruits, apple syrup and oak.
    • Taste
A powerful, spicy and sweet dram with aromas of pepper, apple, citrus, grains, peach, dried apricots, subtle tannins, cloves, mint, ginger, a subtle metallic tone, licorice root, caramel, fresh figs, dates, berries, a hint of acidity and subtle oak.
    • Finish
A medium long and spicy finish with aromas of pepper, tannins, aniseeds, fresh fruits, subtle spices, mocha and oak.
