Appearance: Pale golden orange. A bit deeper than straw.

Nose: Fruity, cherry, grape, pot spice, caramel, vanilla. Toffee.

    Palate: Pineapple, banana, spice, toffee,

Finish: Spicy, nice tropical fruit, toffee.

    With Water: Slightly fruitier.

Overall: Interesting and tasty. Don’t really get the age, but the sweetness of the port cask is surely there. Easy to drink and enjoyable but lacking in complexity. I’m liking it but I must admit to a bit of disappointment for the price.

Unfortunately, the tropical fruits are accompanied by an artificial and musty note.
I don't notice anything from port.

    • Nose
Malt, creamy and sweet, but it is a particular, scorched cream (flambè cream?), The sweetness recalls that of blended (grain), spicy but not spicy, banana. Eventually a peaty (non-smoky) note emerges from the empty glass
    • Taste
Light body, sweet, creamy, definitely more spicy than the nose, there is a slightly medicinal note
    • Finish
      Medium, pleasant and delicate

I recently picked up a bottle, and although I didn't expect much on account of the price, I was pleasantly surprised and finished it off in no time. It has a sweet, fruity, floral nose with a hint of wild berries. Light on the palate and easy to drink, it delivers a pleasant finish with a savory port wine note. And it ticks a few more boxes: 12 years old, non-chill filtered, natural colour, value for money.

    Grapefruit & Raspberries

West Cork does not yet have own production in the market – they have only just started so their own distillate is still maturing – yet they do have whiskey on the market. Sourced whiskey, obviously. This single malt first matured on bourbon barrels before it spent a few months on port casks.

A spring fresh nose where the port influence is very obvious because of some soft notes of red fruit. Very sweet on strawberry, honey and sweet malt. Then some fresh mint and light brown sugar. Simple, sure, but inviting.

The body is just fine. Surprisingly elegant with a nice peppery note, giving it a prickle, despite the modest ABV. A bit more sweet and sour as if from grapefruit and raspberries. Again quite straightforward, but nothing wrong with that.

The finish is rather short, but quite fresh and fruity while the pepper lingers.

Thanks to the 43% this turned out to be a lovely whiskey. And for only 40 EUR, I dare say recommended. I presume this is from Midleton.

Enjoyable light summer Whiskey, sweet and fruity, not very complex.

Great, fruity nose, can not hold on the palate what the nose promises, and rather unpleasant on the finish. The alcohol is not really well integrated despite only 43%.
    • Nose
Very fruity-fresh nose, strong honeydew melon, juicy oranges, fresh, green apple and these Haribo cords in green and red, which I loved so much as a child. Malty sweetie. Some oak spice, and a hint of vanilla.
    • Taste
Very light onset, again the fruits from the nose, but not as strong as you would like. Caramel and malt sweetness. Some cocoa and vanilla.
    • Finish
Short, very bitter, a little espresso and oak. But stay fresh at the same time.

Weak Irishman. Of course, also in the lower price segment, but had expected me something harmonious ...
    • Nose
      80 80
Ouch! Very chemical, cleaning agent, artificial. Slightly typical Irish fruitiness, but very in the background. Port wine? Not even with a lot of imagination ...
With a little oxygen it gains, the aromas become more harmonious, the artificial becomes weaker .... but still very restrained.
    • Taste
      78 78
There is not much, a bit bitter, weak barrel. A bit of honey maybe, hardly sweet .....
    • Finish
      76 76
      .... and he is gone!

Also very tasty. In the nose, the influence of the porch was felt, then not more.
    • Nose
Smells like his colleagues with rum or sherry finish. Violets, gum, resin, but then do some fruit notes, cassis, berries, in any case, you notice the port in the nose.
    • Taste
In the mouth then rather strong, alcoholic, spicy.
    • Finish
Here, too, a touch of wood smoke, that's good. Overall rather spicy than fruity.

Very nice dram, but nothing special. Unfortunately, the taste can not quite keep what the beautiful nose promises.
    • Nose
Fresh, vanilla, bright fruits (apples, pears), berries. Delicate, nice nose
    • Taste
Malty, cereal notes, very creamy / oily, unfortunately I only taste the fruits very discreetly, develops spiciness, slight pungency
    • Finish
      short to medium

A tongue pleaser, on the one hand very tasty, but also discreet, velvety, mild, no excessive port / fruit influence, even seems a bit 'adult' than 12 years, 37 € fit.
    • Nose
starts (like his sherry brother) somewhat sprightly, then actually very filigree, red grapes and dark berries, a pinch of cocoa, some mint, light dry woody notes ... not sour, not too sweet, not too juicy
    • Taste
mild, sweet, dry, velvety - cocoa, cane sugar, some wood, except for a very subtle blackberry note no fruitiness, overall pleasantly tasty
    • Finish
medium length, mild, sweet, velvety, cocoa, very mild spiciness

Neatly done, the finish in the Port Cask seems to have been a bit meager and leaves hardly lasting impression on the tongue.
    • Nose
Honeydew melon, vanilla, red grapes. Grass clippings and hay, but more discreet than some other Irish single malt. Fresh oak.
    • Taste
Coffee notes and roasted aromas. Beer sweetness. Seasoning of cinnamon and cardamom. Milk chocolate.
    • Finish
Short finish with predominantly spicy oak and vanilla.

Another delicate and quite quaffable single malt whiskey from the folks
of West Cork distillery. The port cask finish brings in lovely fruity
flavours, albeit not very complex. But the lovely balance of fruits and
spices, together with an abv of 43% make this dram a pleasant and
    elegant one.

I thank Kirsch Whiskey Import for the sample!

    • Nose
Fruity on the nose with gentle wine aroma. There are red apples and dark
berries, lovely mixed with vanilla, subtle brown sugar and a hint of
floral notes. The fruity nose is complemented by acacia honey and
      sensible oak spices.
    • Taste
Fruity, elegant, creamy but also significantly spicy on the palate. Red
apples and raspberries are coming through, complemented by warming oak
spice and pepper. Vanilla sweetness, oscillating with sour and fruity
flavours, followed by a touch of cereal notes and malted barley towards
      the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long and creamy, with a warming hint of pepper and slightly bitter dark chocolate on the tail.

WITH WATER: Water brings out a bit more fruitiness on the nose with
slightly increasing oak spice. On the palate, however, water enhances
the spiciness significantly with cracked black pepper and ginger coming
through. The lovely fruitiness is evidently tamed. The finish is medium
long and warming, with sticky fruit jam and a hint of pepper.

  18. JohannesB scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

A nice whiskey with a noticeable, but not dominating port wine facet. The higher alcohol content of 43% gives it the necessary strength on the tongue. The finish could be more complex and fruity, it would have taken a few years more in the port barrel. Class PLV and good, tasty Single Malt Whiskey from Ireland.
Many thanks to Kirsch Whiskey Import for the rehearsal.
    • Nose
The influence of the port wine is subtle, but immediately noticeable. Sweet honey, malt and a tender vinousness. Over time, it becomes fresher, a soft and pleasantly reserved acid from the port comes on. Reminiscent of crushed mint leaves with brown sugar ... Mojito Irish Whiskey Style ?!
    • Taste
Elegant and soft on the tongue, but by its 43% noticeably more intense than its 40 percent brothers. He is fine! Sweet and sour, with the sweetness clearly outweighing. Chocolate, raspberries, cane sugar and some cereal notes.
    • Finish
In the relatively short finish comes a beginning seasoning from the barrels and brings mild pepper, dark chocolate and some bright fruits. He invites again and again to another sip.

Delicious! The Nachreifung is noticeable by a beautiful, not too intrusive sweetness.
    • Nose
dark, sweet fruits; Adhesive / corn note; brown sugar and forest honey; Chocolate and raisins; Grain; Over time, the port influence comes out
    • Taste
nice sweet and creamy; Honey; brown sugar and banana; Chocolate, cocoa and orange
    • Finish
short; a little oak with a nice spice; again the corn note is there; chocolate
