Pleasant TUN, antique, especially bourbon flavors (23-27 years old). But it's far away to Batch 1 and 1401 series.
    • Nose
Honey, caramel, vanilla, waxy apple, spicy oak and antique leather.
    • Taste
Refined. Forest fruits, honey, caramel, oak, pepper and chilli.
    • Finish
      Long, spicy.

Caramel, oak, tobacco, pepper, nutmeg grape, citric, mineral. Good medium intensity, medium complexity, warming, balanced, but a bit sharp on the finish. Unspectacular well-made whisky with little depth.

    Aroma:
Deep and warm sherry notes interwoven with wood tones, dried fruits, spices, a hint of vanilla, after a while a fruity aroma develops. Very nice and complex.

    Taste:
Sipping it comes fiery, tingling and slightly burning, tart-sweetish, astringent lightly covers the palate, later sticks with a little sherry, malt and wood more tart than sweet. Another sip sparks sherry notes, the whisky now tastes fruity and sweet, becomes soft quickly, the wood tones do not dominate but keep the balance and prevent it from becoming too sweet.
A very complex whisky that requires a lot of attention.

    Departure:
Tart tart with wood tones, slightly malty, sweetish, with sherry, soft and very long.

More burnt caramel/sherried profile than batch #1 and #2. But I like it less than the previous two batches because it tastes more simple and the Balvenie distillate is masked a bit too much. Still a good whisky though.

Full of sweet, nutty goodness. Very balanced between the sherry & classic Balvenie honey. Overpriced of course, as they all are

    Becky Paskin from scotchwhisky.com saysNOSE
This is where the skill of the blender reveals itself. Some 31 casks have been married together by Balvenie malt master David Stewart, who has used their synergistic complexities to create a nose with a story. Honeycomb, tobacco leaf, leather, sultanas, warm baking spices, fig rolls and sherbet confection. With time comes vanilla ice cream over warm stewed apples.
    PALATE
Thick and rich, but prickly. Rich dark fruits, caramelised pineapple and anise-spiced sticky toffee pudding studded with crystallised ginger and chilli. Randomly, hot buttered brown toast. Water brings out a slight rubbery note but also reveals Balvenie’s signature honeyed character.
    FINISH
    Round but spicy.
    CONCLUSION
Another solid expression from Tun 1509, but could do with a slight reduction in strength to dampen the heat.
    RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME
Smoking cigars and munching on chilli crackers next to the dessert buffet.Scores: 8.1/10
