I sometimes wonder what people expect when they buy a single malt for under 20 €. Of course this is not mature, sophisticatedly complex or whatever ... this is a NAS that was probably exactly 28 months in reffill barrels and then finished for 8 months in cheap Chardonnay barrels. But it shouldn't be more than a cheap, drinkable whisky and it serves the purpose well. If you just want to have a drink with friends, this is the place for you, otherwise please go on.
    • Nose
      74 74
A little malt, a little honey sweetness, no pain for a price range whisky.
    • Taste
      74 74
Sweet, slightly dry, lots of cinnamon
    • Finish
      73 73
      In short, the cinnamon remains.

Strange whisky with rather unpleasant sour nose on my taste. White wine is easily recognizable but the whisky with a wine smell... weird, isn't it? Interesting to taste but I wouldn't buy a full bottle.
    • Nose
Sour, white wine, green apples, grapefruit, lemon dessert, hints of honey and melon, sulphury notes
    • Taste
Spicy, sour apple, lemon zest, vanilla
    • Finish
      Short, dry, nutty

Light and perfect for summer. It may be that I am biased by the price, and VERY low expectations, but I found this to be a great bottle that went by very quickly. It is restrained and different, and for the most part a quality experience. Strangely, there was no overt wine influence that I could detect. I found myself wondering what this would be like with a touch of peat/smoke, or especially at cask strength??? This is certainly a bottle that I would buy again, and in fact has prompted me to look more into the Glen Moray range.
    • Nose
Boozy apple juice. Strawberries, cream, chocolate, honey, and especially nougat. Chex Mix cereal, the corn Chex oddly. At times, notes of peaches, lavender, and perfume. No white wine detectable on my nosing.
    • Taste
Soft, medium-light mouth feel. The neck pour was flat and anemic, reminiscent of flat ginger ale or even flat Pepsi-Cola. However, as the bottle went down the attack improved significantly, developing more of a tangy/fizzy effervescent element that was very enjoyable. Pleasantly sweet for certain, no matter what. Candy citrus and citrus cream. Some caramel, vanilla, and honey again. With water, some floral notes come through but not a primary feature.
    • Finish
Unfortunately, the finish is where this malt fails. It is one of those times where I almost wished the finish was shorter. It does not quite kill the event, but certainly detracts from it. The neck pour gave a hot/heat type of finish and a rather off-putting "metallic bodily fluid" note, or possibly sake. This dissipated as the bottle went down. If you can see through the poor elements, apple juice and sour/bitter citrus rind are in the finish for sure. So it became better after opening up, and even a few minutes in the glass helped. Other notes of biscuits, honey, raisin bread, and a slight spicy oak note at times.

Pours a fairly light pale yellow. Scent is fairly mild. not recognizable straight up as wine to me, let alone specifically chardonnay, but the oak character is toned down, the sharpness of the whisky is tampered. On the other hand, the whisky does have aroma, the oak is present but just more 'deep' rather than agressive. Very welcoming.
The taste has some oak, but again, more of a creamy, widespread character than sharp and rough. Wine gives some aroma's here as well, not recognizable as wine, but the pieces do fit in the palate. Some fruityness, making this whisky different to others. Hides the alcohol fairly well. Very entry level, easy going whisky. Nice enough, for sure.

    - a young but very successful whisky
    - good finish from the Elgin Classic range
    - Too bad it was only 8 months => 2-3 years in the C
Chardonnay cask would probably have worked great
    - for 20-25 € a great price
    - you get a definitely delicious single malt for
a small thaler, a purchase recommendation!
    • Nose
subtle, soft, light, fruity, peach, pineapple, mango, mix of tropical fruits
    • Taste
soft attack, oak follows very quickly and remains dominant in the mouth, subtle fruit notes (tropical fruits) remain in the background and are unfortunately covered by the oak
    • Finish
      short soft finish ;
      slightly tingling, spicy, medium-long finish,
      Oak is still pushing

One of Moray's many entry level malts. Bizarre sales strategy if you ask me. How would you successfully construct a good malt with Chardonnay finish (which I did not really find...) for about 23 EUR? Simple answer: You don't. Not bad but totally pointless and forgettable. Sadly. I'd like Glen Moray to put out more quality integrity malts at higher abv. without the cask finish nicnac.

Bought this a the local store (support your local!!!) for 28 Euro's. Have to say I really like this one, and for that small amount of money it's worth every penny.
So, I recommend this one for those who do not like to spend a lot but still expect a great taste.
I will buy this one again for sure.
    • Nose

Not a big surprise that the whisky has a smell of white wine in it. Fresh but friendly, a bit mowed grass, a bit vanilla. Actually an average speyside whisky smell with a touch of wine.
    • Taste
      90 90
I can taste the chardonnay pretty well, a fresh but also very smooth whisky. A bit vanilla, not sharp (because it's a NAS whisky I'm always affraid it might be a bit sharp).
    • Finish
      90 90
Not too long, still the same freshness, and smooth vanilla in the end. I like it, so it's gone too fast. ;-)

An interesting sample. Light, sweet, fruity.
    • Nose
The aroma intertwines honey, malt, vanilla and pineapple tones.
    • Taste
The taste is accompanied by shades of sweet pastries, vanilla, pamelo and pepper.
    • Finish
Medium duration, slightly sharp, with a bias in the malt component, with notes of vanilla, melon and white grapes.

  16. schengel10 scored this whisky 71 points Connoisseur

Somewhat one-dimensional, simple, good to drink. Very fair price for a decent whisky.
    • Nose
      light, mild, sweet (honey), fruity, grape, pineapple, wine aromas;
    • Taste
      initially sparkling fruity, sweetness, grapefruit, pineapple, vanilla; then wine barrel, emerging oak, pinch of pepper (?), simple but tasty;
    • Finish
      short, sweet and fruity, some (dry) oak lingers;

      Grapes, tangerines, honey. Pretty thin.
    • Taste
      80 80
Very soft, fruity with some oak. The wine barrel goes through well.
    • Finish
      79 79
Short, dry and with grape taste.

It isn’t bad, maybe the palate is too light and the finish too short.
    • Nose
At first sniff there is some leather and chocolate, but that becomes sweet and fruity. Apples, grapefruit, malt, cinnamon, some nutty notes, walnuts and something of butterscotch (“boterbabbelaars”)
    • Taste
A slight prickle, watery, some spirity notes. Fruity, oranges, grapefruit,, some chocolate and coffee, nutmeg, grapes. It has a hint of white wine.
    • Finish
Not too long, some woody notes, chocolate, nutmeg. There is a fresh note, gin-like, juniper and at the back there are some fruity notes, apples and peach.

Too young and not a lot there to talk about.
    • Nose
      Fresh and fruity sweetness.
    • Taste
      Light spices and ripe pear.
    • Finish
      Short sweet finish.
