26 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 80.93 points

  1. HammerHead scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

    A nice and palatable whisky, but lacking in character and with a rip-off price tag. Performs on the level of entry level malts at half it's price.
    • Nose
      83 83
      Dry peat, dusty wood notes, vanilla, pancakes with icing sugar and some citrus in the background. In the first dram from the bottle I got a brief moment of cinnamon sweetness, but that's gone in mere minutes.
    • Taste
      81 81
      Some wood smoke with an oily mouthfeel, also vanilla but overall quite flat. Develops a cucumber like vegetable note in the back of the mouth.
    • Finish
      78 78
      Medium long with some toasted wood notes and aniseed. Nice and warming but a mediocre personality.

    An unusual but interesting BenRiach, he can not hide his youth!

    [Color] white wine;
    • Nose
      a distinct aromatic smoke, wild herbs, fruits, sweetness;
    • Taste
      Sweet and fruity on arrival, spice (oak, pepper), above all intense, aromatic wood smoke, becoming dry;
    • Finish
      medium-length finish with wood, oak;

  5. Oldpultnie scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    A reasonable young whisky with an adult price.
    • Nose
      85 85
      Sweet smell of honey, vanilla and ripe fruits. Hay and light wood tones with a nutty background. Some smoke and maltiness.
    • Taste
      84 84
      Oakiness with white pepper followed with some spiciness, brown sugar and sweet fruit (pears ans peaches). Not the peatiness I expected from the name. A little creaminess on the palate.
    • Finish
      83 83
      Medium finish, sweet and dry.

  6. Alex Fridays scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    The nose starts with strong peat notes, and slightly moves to wet wood, vanilla, apples and sweet fruits notes. The palate is peaty and simple with green apples and oak notes. The finish is middle, peaty with sweet fruits and vanilla notes. This whisky is simply, strongly peated and rectilineal, but tasty and easy drinkable.

    Benriach Peated Quarter Casks, 46%

    Pleasant smoke, bacon.

    Soft in the taste, spicy, fresh.
    Almost creamy in the mouth.
    The 46% are easy for me.

    Fairly long, spicy finish.

    Nice.

    Good, but not as good as the normal peated 10yo.

    Would be nice to see what this could become with a few more years maturation

  10. Rosebank88 scored this whisky 73 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
      Sweet, dense, marzipan-like, freshly pressed straw bales, lime, citrus zests, cucumber, oat milk, yeast dough, kirsch water and subtle peat smoke, which clearly stands in the background. With water: marzipan, glacier ice cream, yoghurt and cold smoke. Overall, quite unbalanced.
    • Taste
      First ashes, peaty peat, tingling Zitruszesten, then gristige maltiness and slightly sour and chalky in the background. With water: sugary, glacier ice cream, slightly cooling creamy notes, chocolate and roasted smoke.
    • Finish
      Short, smoky, fresh and cooling after mint tartlets with dark chocolate coating.
