  1. HammerHead scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

    A nice and palatable whisky, but lacking in character and with a rip-off price tag. Performs on the level of entry level malts at half it's price.
    • Nose
      83 83
      Dry peat, dusty wood notes, vanilla, pancakes with icing sugar and some citrus in the background. In the first dram from the bottle I got a brief moment of cinnamon sweetness, but that's gone in mere minutes.
    • Taste
      81 81
      Some wood smoke with an oily mouthfeel, also vanilla but overall quite flat. Develops a cucumber like vegetable note in the back of the mouth.
    • Finish
      78 78
      Medium long with some toasted wood notes and aniseed. Nice and warming but a mediocre personality.

    A remarkable variation on the usual fruity character of the distillery. Smoke and slightly bitter oak notes are clearly perceived from nose and first sip, yet this malt displays a fresh and easy drinking palate, with citrus, hay and some rounded yellow fruits finish.
    Not simply just like adding some peat smoke to a Speyside malt, but a very balanced and richly textured drinking experience.

    An unusual but interesting BenRiach, he can not hide his youth!

    [Color] white wine;
    • Nose
      a distinct aromatic smoke, wild herbs, fruits, sweetness;
    • Taste
      Sweet and fruity on arrival, spice (oak, pepper), above all intense, aromatic wood smoke, becoming dry;
    • Finish
      medium-length finish with wood, oak;

  9. Oldpultnie scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    A reasonable young whisky with an adult price.
    • Nose
      85 85
      Sweet smell of honey, vanilla and ripe fruits. Hay and light wood tones with a nutty background. Some smoke and maltiness.
    • Taste
      84 84
      Oakiness with white pepper followed with some spiciness, brown sugar and sweet fruit (pears ans peaches). Not the peatiness I expected from the name. A little creaminess on the palate.
    • Finish
      83 83
      Medium finish, sweet and dry.
