Whisky Reviews for Dallas Dhu 1979 McM

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.20 points

  1. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Not particularly multi-layered malt, but what he does, he does great, ingenious banana note.
    • Nose
Vanilla, honey, soft banana and pear, marzipan, white oak, toffee, banana becomes more intense, grapes
    • Taste
Wow, banana bombs like I've rarely had, pears, sugar apricots, vanilla, almond tarts, blossom honey, toffee, grapes, lychee, sweet grasses, sweet tobacco everywhere
    • Finish
Banana chips, malt, lychee, marzipan, long

  2. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

This too is positively old-fashioned. There is no such thing anymore. That is not necessarily always perfect, because it twists every now and then, but overall a whisky that you just have to love in its special way, because you can hardly find anything like that anymore. Since it also tastes really good, a really exciting pleasure.
    • Nose
Ripe, honey, yellow fruits, a little dusty oak. Intense, becomes sweeter over time, already very harmonious, sweet nose with a few old-fashioned, musty notes, slightly waxy and velvety fruity.
    • Taste
nice mouthfeel, first the exciting fruit notes, which strangely come across as a bit musty, then comes the heat and the pepper of the malt and overwhelmed with a certain bitterness. You get used to it over time, but that little explosion still comes with every sip.
    • Finish
Honey, dried apricots, slightly tingling, but rather tart oak notes. A sticky, bittersweet fruitiness lasts a long time.

    Dallas Dhu 23y 1979 - 2003 Bourbon Hogshead 1400 MacMalt 52%
Note: This cask is available as 3 bottlings
    Color: yellow gold
Nose: brilliant, artificial fruit notes (towards pineapple, tropical fruits) and vanilla wood aromas are balanced, very nice
    Body: medium
Mouth: not alcoholic, but the barrel strength brings an intensity of aromas, vanilla, pastries, herbs
Finish: medium / long, spicy, pastries, wood and light herbal notes
Conclusion: ingenious, super tasty, very balanced and with a lot of oomph. One of my all time favorites from Dallas Dhu.
