Whisky Reviews for Auchentoshan 2000 SMWS 5.50

  1. Calmar scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

That's what saitern life-giving with the young Ahentoshen does, swept through my mind after the first approach to the projectile; the aroma is really magnificent, the perfect combination of the base and the finish barrel, fireworks of shades and halftones; I was already relaxed and began to anticipate the taste of this nectar, but was sharply brought back to reality - the taste / finish was performed in a completely different key, soterna (or finish time) on them already clearly was not enough - a lot of bitterness, a lot of oak, rudely, sharply, pushed into the background and does not shine, but it's a pity, so everything started well.
    • Nose
      Open, moist, the first nose - mixed-herbaceous; herbs, dry and fresh, sweet wine shades, wild flowers, coated tablets, valerian, anise, lollipops, in the background - light mineral notes, dry wood and malt;
    • Taste
Dense, saturated, contrasts with the aroma due to a sharper oak dominant, bitter-sweet, peppery, grapefruit crust, tonic; wine and floral-herbal notes here in the background along with malt and moonshine shades.
    • Finish
Spicy, bitter-sweet with bitterness domination, young bark, oak, grapefruit crust, light peppercorn, red mountain ash.

  2. fritzbrause scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

One of the very first double matured Whisky from SMWS at all and it is really wonderful! Very balanced and with lots of different aromas that gather in a very long and lingering dry finish. The outturn was only 60 (!) bottles, which may be a hint, why this tastes a lot older than it is. Try this, if you got the opportunity.

    SMWS Tasting Notes
    Colour: Chocolate coins
Flavour profile: Juicy, oak & vanilla

Sweet aromas of chocolate chip cookie dough greeted the
Panel followed by caramel apple crumble pie and gingersnap biscuits all washed
down with a glass of Goldschläger, a Swiss cinnamon liqueur. The taste was that
of a fresh fruit salad and elderflower relish with the attractive fizzy dry
finish of a ‘zero-dosage’ Champagne. With water the aroma opened up like a
bunch of flowers and on the palate, now a banana milkshake or an American cream
soda. After 14 years in an ex-bourbon refill hogshead, we transferred this
whisky directly into a Sauternes cask for the remainder of its maturation.
