  1. ASWhisky scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

good taste, smooth matching taste without great tension
    • Nose
untypical sweetish, phenol, smoke smelling of sweet barley and peat, pop corn,
    • Taste
soft, warm onset, on the tongue it starts to smoke easily, sweet barley, herbal sweets with liquorice, zirconia fruits, tart - sweet, on the palate chocolate powder with coconut bright notes
    • Finish
long pleasant sweet, smoky, peat, chocolate, intense

Unusually dry, almost refreshing Lagavulin with razor-sharp profile. For me clearly stands before the standard bottlings, but that was not to be expected otherwise. I'll need a sample from that ...
    • Nose
Campfires, fresh lemon and damp soil are the beginning. Very quickly, ripe yellow fruits and malty caramel notes are added. The alcohol tickles something in the nose, but then integrates quickly. Life makes the whole thing much stronger and more lemony. He also becomes increasingly maritime, before he continues to change in the direction Umami and leather. Warms up furniture polish with lemon juice in a granite bowl.
    • Taste
Pleasantly warm onset, dry, lemon juice again, as well as dark, malty sweetness indicated. Back with oak, salt and umami here, something reminds of fresh sushi, before it becomes strong mineral again. The maritime notes can also be found again.
    • Finish
The finish is also strong in the direction of mineral notes and is long, ashy and very balanced.

  3. Archer scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Unlike the 18 years, he is not so good. He feigns that initially, but then comes with a good dose of youth in a positive sense around the corner. Exciting.
    • Nose
Oha, that's a little different Lagavulin nose ... Sea associations evoking smoke with seaweed, salt and machine oil, but very dignified and withdrawn and in the distance, what is that - an old cheese roll? Slightly cheesy anyway. Does not bother the positive first impression in any way, but adds an exciting moment to the classic appearance. The smoke, initially restrained, is now in the glass and does not want to give way. Lemon jelly adds some sweetness to it.
    • Taste
Surprisingly sweet at the beginning with lemon slices rolled in honey. Salt liquorice accompanies the spicy smoke and rolls over the tongue to the rear. Dry at the beginning and with a good portion of wood. Phenolic, fresh tar, Hansaplast, the full Islay program.
    • Finish
Still dry and still lemon-sweet-sour. It gets a bit peppery in the back.

Balance sheet (22) Very unusual in flavor, good taste and beautiful at the finish (91)
    • Nose
Orange, menthol, needles ... mown grass ... sponge cake and vanilla ... turf ... sea air ... very delicate and soft ... earth ... minerality and medicine ... dry board ... drying oil (23.5)
    • Taste
Salt, sweet fruits, ashes and pepper ... iodine (22.5)
    • Finish
Finish sweet, red berries, chocolate, pepper and menthol toothpaste ... spices ... ginger .. solvent (23)

  9. Segens scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A nice dram but for me not better than the 12y Cask Strength versions. It is more balanced somehow but therefore also a bit unspectacular. Would be a nice "daily dram" but for 70-100€ but as it has reached 300€ now, simply too expense!
    • Nose
citric, smoke & honey. Malty caramel afterwards.. A bit more refreshing than the standard ones and also balanced!
    • Taste
Smooth & very well balanced mouth which brings back the nose elements. The malty part is a bit more intense now and the dram is quite dry.
    • Finish
Very nice finish which is middle long and full of smoke. I like it!

a great, fresh Lagavulin, complex and balanced.
    • Nose
Very fresh, juicy, orangy at the beginning, fresh mint and only a little smoke. Later saltier, fleshier, as Lagavulin is known.
    • Taste
also incredibly refreshing, chilled ouzo in the beginning, but salty and spicy. Then in the middle iodine and smoked salmon. Some apricot jam. Never true.
    • Finish
very long, salty and slightly smoky, very balanced.
