Medium short, fading away pretty quickly , touch of smoke remains

Smoked bacon, peat is still very present, then some interesting orchard fruits, esters present on the nose as well, some grassiness, really interesting

    Sample bottled in early 2017
The color is unusually bright for a Ü50 Malt. Must be a very inactive barrel. Do you always fill up the barrel with something? With the number of visitors, the barrel should have been empty for a long time! Who knows, maybe the barrel was opened only a few years ago.
    • Nose
Unusually heavy peat smoke for a Ü50 Islay Malt. The peat smoke, however, is first class. Wonderfully phenolic with roasted hazelnuts and salt edge. Even notes of unripe fruit (apple / pear) look in the background. Yes, this malt looks a bit youthful.
    • Taste
Mild moderate to light body. Full-bodied and balanced. Luckily, it does not look quite as youthful anymore, but not like 50 years in the barrel. Slight fruit notes with acidity look through. Phenolic smoking pleasure mixed with herbal flavors and hazelnut cream, accompanied by spicy wood. Balanced, no burning, no disturbing wood, no bitterness. Only the ABV could have been a bit higher.
    • Finish
Long - spicy - malty - smoke - bacon - iodine - light wood notes and salt.

One bottle is kept for viewing in the Diageo Archive. The cask still sits in Warehouse No.1 at Lagavulin Distillery and is sometimes used for the Warehouse Tasting Experience.
