What can one expect from a double-cask-matured NAS bottling? One notices the influence of both types of barrels. What do you hope? That the youth is well hidden. What do not you expect? Sophisticated complexity. Overall, not very well balanced, in addition are deficits in barrel management. Which target group would you like to address?
    • Nose
clean with vanilla, slightly spicy maritime, salty cotton candy, strong bourbon influence is accompanied by a fine caramel rug, under this carpet is then - sweet and dry fruit - sherry, honey, then probably someone has in his workshop a piece of oak with the smudge paper to be cooked, hot pasta, marzipan
    • Taste
light, barely alcohol, floral with honey, optimally accentuated spiciness, cinnamon, caramel pieces, sherry with orange and raisins, possibly also cherry and Trockenpfaume, sometimes a bit malty and flattening with bitter tones
    • Finish
maritime, slightly astringent on the palate, cocoa, cinnamon, oak, already had more delicious sulfur, apple, honey, pepper accents

Got this sample for free with some order so why not. It’s not bad, but it’s a bit harsh and I have tried many more interesting whiskies, this is nothing to remember and I definitely won't search for a whole bottle...

alcohol is a bit harsh, malty sweet, vanilla, fruit, herby
    • Taste
      83 83
sweet, mellow, barley, vanilla, honey, floral, dried fruit, marzipan
    • Finish
      81 81
Mid to long, sweet, dried fruit, herbal and spicy notes from the wood

It does not hurt anyone, but it does not stay in your memory. You try to spruce up a young whisky with a little barrel. This succeeds only conditionally. Somehow the fruitiness and sweetness seems a bit artificial. Nothing I need again.

Nice profile, double helmet is power! Slightly harsh in taste, perhaps youth makes itself felt. Not a bad short-lived aftertaste. First acquaintance with kurna, I would like to try the releases of this kurna.

An interesting NAS with a well balanced mixture of finishing effects from the PX and first-fill bourbon casks. The nose promises a little more than the taste and especially the finish can hold. I did not find any smoke or maritime notes in these 50 ml

Reduction with 20 gtt water to almost 45%. Also left a lot of time (approx. 15 minutes). Then he opened up positively

    • Taste
      81 81
Oak fruits spices pepper sherry sweet vanilla
Full-bodied, velvety, warming, pleasant mouthfeel, becomes drier and more spicy in the course
    • Finish
      79 79
      Oak Spices Sweet Herb
medium length, not very sustainable / impressive, some fruit can still be felt

Very nice and balanced NAS from Glen Scotia, definitely better than many entry-level malts with age statement. Light, easy going, with some tropical motives. Quite simple so you shouldn’t try to find any complexity in it but often this is an advantage, isn’t it?
    • Nose
Slightly sweet, some tropical fruits, yellow apples, dried apricots, fruit acid drops, berry marmalade, vanilla fudge, hint of malt, damp oak, light minerality on the background. Strangely, after resting some while in a glass this dram released unpleasant rotten notes.
    • Taste
Sweet, rather spicy (ginger, nutmeg), canned peaches, dark berries jam, toffee, milk chocolate, light oak, again some rotten notes
    • Finish
Sweetish, slightly nutty, caramelized pears, oat cookies, hint of oak
