Continuation of the blind tasting ninth of 24 drams. A very nice sherry matured dram which is high level (but good balanced) level of alcohol (58% my guess) from the Speyside (I guess Glenlivet) very elegant and an age of (I guess) 20 years. It reminds me a bit on the Miltonduff Christmas or the 20y Glenlivet Sherry Whiskys offered by SV this year. (And I even guess it is one of them) Therefore a very nice Christmas dram from Sherry (Oloroso or PX I guess) Cask. The Cask itself is offering a lot to this dram but also overcovering him a bit which I still like!
    • Nose
Dates, plums, cocoa powder and milk chocolate. Marzipan some herbs and honey gives it a Christmas note somehow.
    • Taste
A sweet start but also somehow a bit dirty. Not too sweet but as well as not too strong a very nice balance and I could keep this dram for minutes in my mouth. Lovely. The taste of the nose comes back but with an up and down of all flavors.
    • Finish
A lot of cocoa powder and quite long. Very nice and so far the best dram combining all three elements.

Yummy, that's delicious! The too old should not be here, but lacks the complexity. That's more PX straightforward. Maybe almost too sweet. Chilled Kahlua. Well, I like Glen Els too ...

    Notes from a blind tasting.

OK, so on Glenmorangie I would have been pretty much last, but admittedly that could have been anything. Barrel, barrel, barrel ...
    • Nose
Begins with butter cake, then quickly spicy, much wood. Impressions of brandy and slightly salty molasses. After some time there is an incredibly strong note of, yes, you can not say otherwise, coffee with beet syrup. Incredibly dark, tough and cute. Still with a dash of brandy, but good! Heat produces slightly sour oak notes, the syrup now looks almost sticky, a shot of Kahlua. Dried bananas would then also be a fruit note, probably the only one.
    • Taste
Much sweeter than expected, with light acidity, he delivers here a mixture of beet syrup and light honey, again with coffee, also here an idea dried bananas. The power and the spice come late with a hint of menthol, the mouthfeel is heavy and oily. A few tannins may be there, but mainly it comes without bitter substances.
    • Finish
Sweet, viscous acid is on the palate, sweetness in the mouth, both goes slowly and ends after a medium-long finish in a nutty natter.
